    Where to find Brahman cattle?

From my experience in this area (I use Patton Junction and Fruitland Sale Barns in S. MO) Brahman influence lowers the amount people will pay for cattle. Most ranchers I know are trying very hard to breed out the Brahman influence that was bred in during the 80's and 90's. You will hear...

A different kind of lost calf

I guess I am naive. I want to say I don't think that sort of thing happens around here but realize that would be stupid to think everyone around here is honest. I just want to think that way. I am sorry Dave for the loss of the calf, the aggrevation that you are spending time looking for it...

    Fencing ?

Yep, especially with a busy road and neighborhood bordering the property.

    Nutsedge & Cupgrass

Thanks Graybeard. Since those links only try to get rid of it I assume it is not something the cattle will eat or at least get nutrient from if they eat it. Those treatments seem like they would be difficult to apply without damaging pasture grasses though. I think I will try keeping it mowed...

    Nutsedge & Cupgrass

I have some Yellow Nutsedge (also called nutgrass) and Cupgrass (also called Hairy Cupgrass) in my pasture. Niether shows up on any of the nutrient tables I have. Are either or both of these a decent cattle grass? This pasture was wheat till spring and I am converting it to pasture. I am...

    Planting Grass to avoid erosion

Well, this weekend I got it seeded and about 3/4 of it covered with Straw. I hope it holds. I also went and threw some logs and rocks (trying to be sure they were pretty flush with the ground) about every 30-40 feet in the ditches on both sides to help slow the water down. I was shocked at...

    Planting Grass to avoid erosion

Very good Dun. A computer guru along with cattle, and if you are from the Ozarks, you of necessity must be a fishing expert too. I love that area. Get to the Lake area about everyother year. Can't get used to the Fried Lobster at the Blue Heron though.

    Post Pics of your Place!

Beautiful CB. Kinda destroys my minds picture of Texas this past July. I know Texas is a big place with lots of diverse lands, but didn't think anywhere in TX thrived this well in July 2012. I also like the donkey. I was considering getting one since we have lots of coyotes. I was at the...

    Planting Grass to avoid erosion

Ok...I am completely confused. When I posted this picture it was upside down (thus the last post). Now I go into the thread and the pic is right side up?? Any computer geniuses out there with an explanation?

    Planting Grass to avoid erosion

Ok...upside down. I turned it over in Photobucket, but it appears it keeps the original formatting when pasting it. Sorry, you will have to hold your monitor or laptop upside down to see it?? Anyone know how to fix this? I must have a habit of turning my iPhone the wrong way to take...

    Planting Grass to avoid erosion

I just had a road put in up a steep hill. I am worried about the ditches and slopes on the sides of the road eroding bad. I am in S. IL where we generally get down to a frost temp at night and in the 45-55 range in the day this time of year. I am planning on going out this weekend and...

    Isn't this something

Yeah the Union thing is a tough one becasue humans simply get greedy. First the Corp gets greedy and pays a paultry wage and wants you to be happy with it. Then the unions help get a living wage for the workers which is great but don't know when to stop. So the union gets greedy without...
