    lets talk second cut hay

No offense taken. Have had two winters when I fed a group of horses and then a group of horses and small herd of cows on only straw for roughage. Up the grain and protein and all came out both times slick and fat.

    Considering a new pup

We currently have the best all around dog we think we have ever had. She is a total package and will not leave my wife's side while she is outside. Bear is half Golden Retriever, half Dottie and looks like a large black lab. Most vocal dog we have ever had. She will bark, whine and carry on...

    lets talk second cut hay

1st, 2nd, 3rd, all better than snowballs. No mold, if you are looking for hay cause you're out, it is better than nothing. Had a couple of years we fed straw, just upped our grain ration to offset loss of protein. They came through nice and slick.

A first for us caution graphic photo

Saw a few of those in 4H goats. Can't say for sure, but thought it was when they were fed the generic "all stock" feed. Thinking it was the molasses or copper. Basically if I remember correctly, it is more common when hay is reduced and majority of feed comes from concentrates/bags/feed mill...

    Never Ending

Today's mentality, don't do anything about a problem, just relocate it and make it someone else's problem.

    Hay Equipment question

Stonewall, I am not aware of your experience, those on here that have similar equipment but way different results,, might discuss ground speed (gear) and rpm's. Maybe you are running it to fast and it is beating itself up? I do not know, but that might give more insight and help with keeping...

    Dairy beef cross for showing?

Yes you can here in Indiana. BUT, you have to show in the beef class. That will put you at the bottom of the class quickly. My daughters showed some shorthorn/jersey cross heifers. Did good in the bucket calf class. Got butts kicked in beef class second year. Kicked butt in cow/calf class...

Our kids have situation, wondering if anyone else been through it

As one of my past students father in law told him, if it is a turd, you polish it, you only end up with a polished turd. They tore down the old farmhouse and built new. They are more than satisfied as they also saw more problems while tearing down that they wouldn't have known about.

It is a smell you never forget, can't explain to city folk, and will recognize as soon as you smell it!!!

    Dr. Naylor's Dehorning Paste

If you know how to use a hot iron dehorner, get a piece of pipe, copper, thin wall metal, whatever the fits over the nub. Fashion a handle out of wood and heat with a propane torch and burn.
