The tub and the adjustable alley are fine. The continuous fence was installed on 2" posts set 5 feet apart - it was way too flimsy for a 12' alley. Would not use anywhere but on a perimeter fence.

I have their tub and their adjustable alley. I did have their continuous fence on a 12' alley-did not work for my Brahmans, the way they crowd together and wad up. I'll re-use the continuous fence for small traps, but I don't want it anywhere around my pens, which are now drill stem and sucker...

    Cat 977L loader value

The 977L was an excellent model, and there are still plenty in use. For clearing, it would be hard to beat. For the road itself, a motor grader would be far preferable. With a 75% bottom and a solid drive train, $20K would be a decent buy, and you can usually get your money back. If you want...

    Chute size?

28" works for everything but mature bulls. I've heard of bulls getting stuck at load out and having to get a torch to cut them out.

    Skid steer vs Tractor

With an 80-100 hp with FEL you can feed and stack hay, aerate, fertilize, bush hog, drill post holes and weed kill. I have both, and use the skid steer with grapple, mostly in the woods. Looking down the road, if you want to maintain your pastures, you will probably be happier with the farm...

Probably been covered before working systems

Phil: Draw a horseshoe on a sheet of paper. Double the horseshoe for the alleys and sweep tub - probably 12 feet wide. Then connect the legs of the horseshoe to show your 20 X40 pens. Give yourself good and safe access to your working chute. Will you load out from this facility? Have one...

Going to take a few days away--what to do in Corpus?

Cotten's BBQ in Robstown. If you want seafood, King's Inn in Riviera. If you eat at King's Inn, get a tour of King Ranch headquarters just west of Kingsville, then go by King Ranch Saddle Shop on the way back to Corpus.

    Working pens

Building a new set of working pens. They are a horseshoe design with a ten foot alley leading up to a 180 degree sweep tub at the end, sweeping to the left. Before going into an adjustable alley and squeeze chute, I need to install a load out chute to the left (it would be on your right if you...

    Woods rotary mower

I just bought a Bush Hog 10' pull type, but for the same money I would have bought a Woods or a John Deere. If the deck is good and the gear boxes don't leak and the u joints have been greased, It gets down to the price. Good luck!

    Bush Hog 3210 pull type

Will do, and thanks for the advice!

    Bush Hog 3210 pull type

Finally got it together yesterday. Hung a choker from the rafters in the barn, then somehow got the splines lined up. There will be dancing in the streets. If this mower ever gets on a trailer again, the cv joint will stay intact.

    Bush Hog 3210 pull type

Does anyone know how to assemble the two piece pto shaft on a Bush Hog? I pulled it apart when I was hauling it and stabbing the two back together seems to be more than my back can stand. The problem is the weight of the pto/u joint assembly and getting everything lined up.

Grazing Lease Rates in Hood and Erath counties

I would look closely at the carrying capacity and work it from there. People will pay up to $100 per Mama cow per year for good pasture, water and fencing. It all becomes very negotiable, depending on lease terms and conditions. $10.00 per acre is a good benchmark. Good luck!

Question for a Hat know it all

Good choice. Some of the cattlemen I know could afford any hat they want...and Catalena's is the one they wear.
