    First Time Finishing

Like your calf ages, I usually have a calf processed at 16.5 months to 18 months. Younger cattle in the spring fed hard during the winter, older fed during the summer. We really fight the heat in SW OK during the summer. Expect the cattle to hang just above or below 800lb hanging weight...

Thats a beautiful sight to see

Been so long since we have seen rain. Dozer will be here Monday to begin the 4th pond of the summer. Hope he gets rained out! 🌧

    Lake Mead

Well, Oklahoma planed for their long term water needs and Texas decided that since they didn't, they were just going to take OK's in court. Texas should have made long term plans 50-75 years ago like others did. I am an Okie and it was a cheap move by TX. (my opinion)

    Pond cleaning fiasco

In the dry country of SW OK, 110' x 100' x 14' $5,500. Cousin has the dozer and EVERYONE calls him. $5,000 reimbursement from NRCS so $500 out of pocket.

    Safeguard Cubes Taste Bad??

I have found the best way to insure a good rain is to back pour a big group of cows that are difficult to get up. Or, use a Vetgun on them even when rain is not in the long range forecast. Almost guaranteed gully washer within hours.

    Selecting a Show Steer

As a group of Ag Teachers setting around at a stock show on a down afternoon in OK, late 90's. I remember saying adults trying to make a living beating kids at a kids game would ruin the industry.

    Vaccines for show heifers

Give your show calves a rabies shot also. Kids around them daily, the cattle are penned usually close by the barn around feed and water attracting skunks. I speak from experience.

They're getting worse than the hogs

High Pro feeds out of TX has a feed (you also have to utilize their special feeder) that will render those wild hogs sterile.

Thoughts on this clubby show heifer?

She gets pretty "frail" from her body to the ground. I would wonder how she would look once you sprayed her with a water hose also.

    Smartphone replacement

S10+, the glass screen covering the camera lens is very easy to break. Breaks easily even when in a protective case. I guess it's just not designed for dropping in the alleyway...

    Skunk

You can use one of the cheap (blue) tarps sold at farm stores, hold it in front of you where they cannot see you, and walk right up to the trap and lay the tarp over the cage. Skunk won't spray and pick up the trap by the handle through the tarp and carry it to a location where you can flip it...

    diesel storage tank

I have a overhead stand for a diesel tank. I have not really looked at it in quite some time but it should be in good condition. I was figuring on taking it apart for the angle steel. If SW OK is not to far away I believe it held a 500 gal. round tank.

Rooting up my hay pasture no more

Hi-Pro feeds out of west TX. has developed a new feed for wild hogs. It causes sterilization in the males. There is another company (escapes me at the moment) that produces a feeder for this feed that limits access to other animals. This is the same premise that was used in eliminating the screw...
