Is this jersey cow close to calving?

Sorry to hear about losing the cow

    Will Bessie raise 4?

I am on the wagon of if you really like this cow and want her long term on your farm, I don’t think trying to add more calves every year is a good idea. Put one extra on her and don’t milk her to death. I don’t think she is full jersey so milk production is not over the top.

    Crossing for red baldies

More poundage on steers. Good phenotype with polled bulls. Simbrah type heifers would have value.

    Crossing for red baldies

I would consider a Fleck bull

If you were starting a new herd from scratch..

LVR- please explain this part. What is the benefit of the trips through the chute, the semen and set up costs, and the overall work to AI when covering with the same quality bulls? Would be roughly same costs, then you would have the residual value of the bulls at the end.

    What would you do?

I just purchased a farm in central Alabama that has a 40x80 metal barn on it. Dirt floor. Solid construction. Looking to try to turn it into a money making part of the overall farm. Hay storage is already covered in another shed along with a covered working chute and catch facility. Not really...
