Peg my foster son is youth minister at the church that was burned in Athens, Texas. There's a nut on the loose.

That's terrible..hopefully no one was in them when they burned? Is this some sort of extremist targeting a certain religion or just someone who hates churches? That's about as low as you can go.

Last year in Alabama there were church fires. Finally there were arrests and I believe the culprits were college students that had nothing better to do.

Hang em high and for all to see. That is the problem in today's society no one is held accountable for their actions.
It is always someone else's fault they turned out bad or were not given everthing they ever wanted.

Tom is correct, these guy were middle to upper class college students, "they were board and it was for fun" according to one of the guys. Burnt churches that were older and that might not had all the resources to rebuild.

Tom, I know that some church were chipping in and helping some build back, did they all get built back?? I haven’t heard.

I feel that if you burn a church, you automatically get a green light strait to HE!!

I don't know if any were built back or not. I know it just is not right.

That's fine. Church is for sinners. Those who are "imperfect" and realize it.

 I guess the hypocrite in the church could say the same, and so could hitler, etc. Self made morals are the problem, not the solution.

Amen on that has only been one perfect man and two that walked on water.

thanks..i never professed to be so high and mighty as yall say i am..but i appreciate being cmpared to god and hitler at the same time

what im sayin for those of you who must be one of the hypocrite i speak of is that i know many who go to church and do not live in the ways of the church. i wouldnt think to do some of the things my friends that profess religion and never miss church do or have done....course if i could go get forgiven like they do then i wouldnt feel so bad about it..

instead i just dont do it...because i dont think its right..not cuz a preacher told me its not right on sunday

btw..im a catholic ...confirmed every sunday til i was 15 when i went sporadically

god bless

exactly 101%

Good post and right on the money.

DB, you got your post up before I finished mine. It took a while to get my thoughts together. I'll have to agree, even if I don't personally know you, the Hitler reference doesn't fit you at all, probably is a good example of "morals" gone wrong. You do have those 15 years of guidence, and they may or may not guide you back as you get older. That is between you and your maker. Here is what I originally wrote:

I would like to believe these "self made morals" are better than none at all. I think the real problem comes from the basis of the morals.

Even the "unchurched" have something inside them that leads them thru life. It depends on bits and pieces of morals that were picked up and collected as they grew up as to the path they choose.

I'd like to think their are many paths that lead to the pearly gates. If you were to read the crucifixion passages, Luke 23, of the repentat dying thief - 43. Verily I say unto thee, To day shall thou be with me in paradise.

Sitting on the front pew or even the back pew isn't nessecary. Doesn't hurt, but isn't necessary.

dont think ollie refered to him as hitler, if the lord didnt set guidelines to live by,..and left up to simply what a man thinks,,or his consience... :?:

Gary that's good...but...if you let those "hypocrites" stand between you and God, they are closer to God than you are. That said, I'm Catholic as well....But then so was Hitler at a young age. Just shows me that faith and salvation is a life long journey...not a one time trip down the aisle of a church and then free to "sin at will". I also agree 100% with you that we all should "live" the faith that we proclaim with our mouth. That is what I would call "works".

yall are getin carried away now..no offense to any of ya but...carry on just the same

it was a joke for how the fires got started in the first place. im sure you are all aware of a hypocrite sitting next to you in the pew...i dont attend church anymore altho i have been thinkin that i might...

my talk of morals is that some of the peoples in the church have done far worse than i would ever do even having had the direction of the church (them not me)...some followers will go thru the chute and some wont..even if theyre all cattle some have thier own ideas.

some folks know whats right and wrong and will treat others as they need to be and want to be treated themselves and others will not do tight either way

personally i dont think church will make a cow pie a sweet potatoe pie no matter how many times ya bake it.

living wrong under the guise of god makin it right is still wrong...
