Scales.... Couple questions

I just ordered a set of load bars type scales. 5000 lb capacity. Just a hair over 500 bucks.
In a portable operation how would you suggest setting them up? Weld plate to the squeeze floor or the load bars to sit on?
 
To put the scale under the squeeze it almost requires it to be on concrete. Build or buy a platform that fits just behind the squeeze but the area still needs to be pretty level and solid.
 
Is there a feasible way to make the scales part of the squeeze itself?
That way I can get weights on other cows
 
The load bars can be permanently attached to the squeeze. If you are going to use the scales as portables, unless you want to move the squeeze each tim, why not set them up in the alleyway leading to the scales. Apan/trough sort of deal that is as wide as the alleyway with the loadbars miiounted under it is the way most folks set them up. Or you can make a cage sort ofg deal with doors at each end mount the bars to it and put removable wheels under it

To work the cows on the leased land the squeeze is going to the cows, not the cows to the squeeze. And then that way I can get weights easy enough. Here or at the other land

Is the squeeze portable, i.e. have it's own wheels?

Depending on the loadbars and chute you can usually bolt the bars to the chute. You will need a fairly level/smooth/compacted area to put it. A neigbor carrys a couple of pieces of sheet metal with him to lay down and have the bars riding on them so there isn't as much give to the gournd. Ideally you would have a concrete slab at each location or at least concrete footings for the bars
 
Ok. That's what I needed to know. Never seen them used but I sorta understand how they're supposed to be set up.

The vets loadbars hare set up to take a 1/2" bolt in each end to fasten it to the chute or pan
 
Not sure if this one is set up like that or not. They are listed as vet scales though.

What Dun said. The ones I have seen though, while in the chute, the chute is on a firm bed---concrete, etc. Yes, Wisconsin is much different than Florida! ;-)
 
if ya mount them to a plate in the btm of the squeeze dont ya think the load cells will take a beating goin down the road..
maybe make it into another alley leading into the squeeze and set it up each time since ya gotta level it and zero all that anyways. that way it wont get hammered haulin it...i been wantin some too.
are they new? for 500 bucks?
