Many of you may have noticed the discord amoungst members and on the board of late. Many of you may have received an 'invite' to a new forum too. This is the way I see it...an impartial viewpoint.

A couple of members decided to start a new Cattle Forum in the beginning of 2016. There is nothing wrong with that, what is so wrong is the hostile way they went about it all. When they decided the 'time' was right and their board was up and running they went about causing total discord and havoc on CT. We were mere pawn's in their hidden agenda. They opened multiple accounts under alias names in this time. When they started the 'attack' and were banned they simply used one of their numerous aliases to continue. When they were quite satisfied that there was a certain instability on CT they started recruiting members, PM'ing a link to their forum with an invite. I have visited the forum and there is much jubilation going on there, 'we did it' but along with that there are horrible, hateful comments...so much hate! Then I look at some of the members that joined there, totally unaware that they have been 'played', thinking it's all a good thing...I can only hope that their eyes are opened to the true motivation behind this all.

Don't be duped folks...think ;-)

So, you are saying the unhappiness and discord we've seen here for about the last 6-8-10 months is a well planned and executed ploy to get people to leave here....

What you are describing is a conspiracy theory that rates right up there with the moon landing being made on the back lot of a Hollywood movie set. People go elsewhere all the time for a variety of reasons and if they can't discuss certain things here , they will migrate elsewhere. Look at it along the lines of "Take it to Ranchers" and you will be closer to being accurate.
Perhaps, you should be asking "why are people wanting to leave here?" after being good members for years, in some cases for over a decade.

I fail to see the downside of it too much either, as it removes some of the discord from here.

From my personal perspective:
We lost something much more special than just a great contributor and cattleman when dun passed away. He didn't moderate with fear..he did it successfully the old fashioned way..because we all respected him.

We sure did! I have no doubt Dun would have handled the hostility in the same way as Mod2 did.

Think about it GB. The post named "Banned Members" that has now been hidden from public viewing(amongst others) on the other forum...where everyone was bragging about how many times they were banned. One member there admitted to being banned 15 times. Can you imagine moderating under those circumstances...being bombarded with trolls, multiple aliases etc. I can only commend Mod2 for the way he handled it all.

Not only can I imagine it, I've done it. I moderated a military related board for about a year, which was relatively close to a no-holds-barred format. As long as rule keeping is done equitably, it is manageable.

As was recently stated, there are over 20,000 members here, but I suspect no more than 200-300 routinely active participants if even that many. (I haven't really tried to count so I could be way off in either direction.) This and that board are not the only ag boards I belong to and I suspect that is true for most people, and I have seen CT people openly suggest people join other web groups here before. Really...this is no big thing, and not unusual at all.

There are a lot more interesting conspiracy theories out there, for me to spend my time pondering than the one you presented.
Most people joined that board for one reason.
Freedom.

Never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you!
You went to the trouble to go there and didn't like what you saw.
You troubled trouble and brought that trouble back here.
Don't.
No one has forced anyone to join there, all have done it of their own free will.
We all joined for a reason.

I must be of low value. I haven't been asked to join any other forum yet.

Ken

Me neither, I suspect we're in good company.

You were once part of the group that set up the new forum. I bet there is a reason you didn't get invited.

Devine intervention perhaps. No matter, I'm thankful.

this is a good forum... most people SHOULD be able to take a disagreement and not have to cry about it. things like not posting 'vulgar' acronyms is pretty silly but hey thats ok. Everyone is getting a little too sensitive anymore. (everywhere)

allison, I have never been banned from a board. Ever. I tend to move on if I find something about a site I don't like. There are those that don't do that, with good reason. If I felt like I was wronged, then I may take a different stance. As far as I know, the board WAS created in '16, but really didn't take off too good for whatever reason. Due to lack of time and energy invested, would be my guess. The reason several, including me, have become involved with the other board is due to just what happened in the above post. RBB, was banned over his post above apparently. (Set me straight if that is not the case) That post, in and of itself, is in no way a ban worthy post. There are people let back in here that disparage others on a regular basis. But their post count is high, so that gives them a pass, I suppose? Who knows why? I think a couple people have really sent the board down in the last yr or so, coupled with the lopsided moderating, has really been disappointing. There were some very knowledgeable cowmen ran off when it started to get annoying.
Like you, just my impartial point of view.

Life goes on some people stay in their little puddle of safety and some venture out into the world. A certain few are protected here and not allowed to be called out for their stupidity and self promotion of their status which isn't good for overall moral.

The two Cattle Forums being talked about aren't the only two out there Today in cyber space any way. So what's the big deal about another one.

I saw RBB's post. It was embedded with a link advertising which is a clear violation of the rules. If he was banned it could be for this reason.

What a load
You've got a lot more blantant advertising and self promotion going on than posting a link to a forum. People post links to forums here all the time. The people allowed to openly promote their business interest here have caused more problems than religion and politics combined.
But posting a link to a cattle site...lol...

I gotta agree with fence on this. I've put up links to forums, Craigslist and other products and there's never been a word said about it by anyone. This heavy handed moderating is just one symptom of a bigger problem.

Yes Slick, a bigger problem called The Posse, that went out of their way to cause discord. Think for yourself, one of them admitted to being banned 15 times. That was just one of them, what of the others...
