    Weaned a whopper

I would guarantee that alfalfa is in the 20's. Kudos to Richnm for making some quality hay, but don't free choice that to cows, you're going to wreck them. Even dairy's don't feed that quality without putting some lower quality fiber in it.

    Weaned a whopper

And Richnm, don't ever be afraid to adjust on the fly. I don't know what your plans are for this bull or your cattle. We retain heifers and develop the bulls for sale. Last year we weaned off a 810lb heifer, she went on a different program than the others, she got zero supplementation, only...

    Weaned a whopper

Excess protein is really rough on the feet, it's one reason dairy's have the foot trimmer out every month. Mix wheat straw into the alfalfa or completely switch out to grass hay. My Dad who operated in a very similar environment like you, had to cut his grass/alfalfa with wheat straw. In your...

    Weaned a whopper

Your feed appears to be a bit too hot. Look at his front feet, they are beginning to out grow his age and with his claw set it could be a really big issue for him down the road. From your picture it looks like he has a unusually large head, but the picture is taken from an angle that isn’t...

    Renting a Bull

I had a guy a few months ask to lease one of my bulls. So I asked him for a detailed account of his vaccination program.....the conclusion.....NO! If you can get a bull from a closed herd and know your cows are clean, it’s a go, in the past I’ve charged $30 per cow to be covered and you break...

    Fill in bull

This is the kind of junk I see in my part of the woods all the time. Folks tell me they can get Bill so and so’s bull for $200 for two months to cover all their cows. Nice, you get garbage calves if you get a calf, trich and warts.

Rainfall or Enhance ? President or Elation?

Here’s what I’ve heard from respectable folks in the industry. Rainfall makes great daughters, President better boys. Marketable is up to you, are you selling bulls to guys that raise replacements or outfits that take the steers to the rail? I wouldn’t trust the numbers on any of these bulls...

VAR Power play and SAV Emblem

No I haven't, but here's my story short, 11 years ago I had to sell my herd, I was going to use War Party at that time, I loved Lead On and Bextor both made some really nice females for me. War Party is a descendant of both. Last year I started putting a herd together and bought a heifer from...

Do you think Renown or Resource bred to Raindance or President would be the way to go?

Fetal Programming beef cows. If you don't feed them, don't expect much...

Once again it depends on your environment and the feed available. Out here in the Northwest, most of us on the west sides of the states only have pasture for 3 months, 9 months of feeding. On the east sides, it's either irrigated pastures for six months or high desert, high desert you ain't...

Fetal Programming beef cows. If you don't feed them, don't expect much...

I don't understand why this is such an issue, as cattle producers we feed what we have available or can afford.

VAR Power play and SAV Emblem

If you're breeding cows, not heifers I would go Renown and the heifers that come out of those, breed to President or Raindance. Still not understanding what you're really looking to create, a singular power bull or a lot of bulls you can sell to the neighbors. If you used Payweight and not a...

    Coat?

From what I understand the AAA is putting a lot of emphasis into shedding and we could see an EPD coming out in a year or two, because we need more data we can't trust. Another EPD, that will be useless, because of environments and operations.

VAR Power play and SAV Emblem

Power bull typically has to come from a power cow and a power bull. If I was breeding my best cow seeking a bull, I would go with Renown out of those options. Ten X is capable of making good cattle, he has sold too many straws, to have been a dud.

VAR Power play and SAV Emblem

Both are unproven, that's a direction I personally never go in, especially with these two bull's pricing. $75 for Power Play, there are plenty of options for Payweight sons. One reason I wouldn't go with Emblem, I think his sire is better. I saw his lineage and automatically thought....I...

Only 64 days left till he's weaned.

I would, because the only one of those epd’s that even matter is CED, I think HP might be the worst EPD of all. And ironically Branded you don’t mind bottom 5% for CED, you post stuff about SAV International quite a bit.

    Resource ve Cowboy Up

Never seen Resource progeny, but I have seen Cowboy Up, a lot out here in the West. Stamps his progeny, they definately have a look, but just like any bull he’s not going to impress when you breed him to a ruddy cow, who should have been in the kill pen.

She appears to be moderate framed and lacking capacity, could just be the angle of the video. And she should be thin if she's milking off for that big guy.

Only 64 days left till he's weaned.

I think most producers ween according to feed, lack of. In my operation I couldn’t imagine going 280 days, I think the returns begin to diminish and the cow is no longer profiting the calf. I actually prefer to take them off before 205, for us that is August, which is just before the weather...
