    hiding calves!

We have lost several calves this year after mommas got them out of hiding. One died in birth with mom (birthed overnight and both dead in morning, obviously not after hiding) One was doing great and then the next day dead in the middle of a field. Now we have a 2 day old that is sooooo skinny...

Couple shots of our first calves

Yes they are my first group of “Fancy” cattle. In the past we ran cattle at out south Texas ranch but it was strickly commercial brush cattle. This is a new little 30acre piece of property I bought in the last year. It was in pretty rough and raw condition I’ve been working diligently to get...

    Help identify this grass

Based on that photo I would say it’s rescue. I finally took a closeup and it’s a lot more like your rescue pic

    Help identify this grass

I thought that was a possibility. But the seed pods are a lot shorter on our grass. It also looks a bit like western wheatgrass but also same issue. Also thought it might be Rescuegrass

Looking at a used Mahindra 6610

Yeah that’s my fear. $20k for a 7 yr old 60hp cab tractor isn’t a bad deal, but I am nervous. I really was hoping to find a good Kioti or LS deal since they seem to be a great bang for buck and reliable from what I’ve heard. I have heard mixed things on Mahindra as well so I’m a little nervous

    Black baldies North Texas

I have been checking out the sale boards but most of the baldies I have found are still 3-4 hrs away. I was hoping to find some good gentle cows, preferably with calf or bred, within an hour or hour and half from property. My property is north of Gainesville, Tx

    Buying a farm

What about just leasing the land you need and buying as you grow and can afford it? Or buying the small one and look at diversification of land (as you grow look at land in different areas to circumvent drought/storm issues hitting you 100%

    Black baldies North Texas

Anyone know someone who has good black baldies in North Texas? I just got a little 30acre place just north of Gainesville and I would like to put some black baldies on it. So I’d like to get a small starter grouping of 10-12 head of cows or maybe heifers. Prefer very gentle because my kids...

Advice— what size shredder and tractor

It would only be something I would do if we do indeed proceed with a Christmas tree farm. There are very few people around the country doing reindeer for a variety of reasons, not the meat of which no one wants to use the meat. But it’s basically domesticated caribou so it would be similar to...

Advice— what size shredder and tractor

North Texas. Have looked into them and they are considered livestock in Texas and while they are sensitive to extreme heat, they actually are closely related to whitetail so they can survive in our climate with some special provisions. We are literally just exploring this as it’s a new idea...

Advice— what size shredder and tractor

Just buying the property (or making an offer at least) and it’s grown up. I plan on running some cattle on the front 20 acres for at least 5-7 years. We have thought about putting reindeer or something else on it once the trees start to mature but I don’t know yet. But the first few years it...
