sorryfor lack of info. They are on pasture. We are getting up on numbers and we are looking to separate our pastures, buy another bull and run two seperate groups of approx 25-35 cows with one bull for each respective group. I brought up the idea of spending a little more money and buying a bull with some more performance. Dad wants an older bull (3-4yo) because he'll "know" how he's grown out. I argue to buy a yearling whose performance will be the same when he's four years old because i thought 3-4yo bull will cost considerably more than a yearling. I know the yearling wont be able to breed as heavily as the older bull. I guess my real questions are: If yearling bulls will be exposed to cows in pasture, they only need that pasture to maintain health during breeding AND finish growing? OR: Do i need to feed special ration or feeder cattle ration to grow him out?
