Forages isn't a one size fits all across the country thing. You real need to examine your situation. What kind of grazing system are you using or wanting to use? Roational grazing? What is the area you are wanting to plant like soils, water mositures, sun exposure, and location on the farm? Take a soils test look at what fertility you are looking at and need to fix way before planting. What are you grazing as well stockers vs. mother cows can affect your decision as well. Do you have a problem with summer slump then maybe look at warm seasons either bermudagrass or even Eastern gamagrass? Are you hoping to graze them year around then where is the hole in your year around season you need filled? Please do try Extension. If your agent won't help you try the next county over or the state forage specialist. [QUOTE="Sweet_Ag_Girl, post: 841183, member: 16828"] I'm in Virginia, so I'm just going to give you a few things to think about. I'm in an area that if its a poor site throw fescue on it and let it go, but if its a good site we start looking at other options. You are deeper South then me where bermudagrass is an option. Once you get it figured out what type of forages you are wanting then you can examine what varieties would be best for your area.
