Dec 2, 2018 I was gonna ride today...but when I let the dogs out at 4:30, it was still raining..so I went back to bed....slept until 6:30, when Apache insisted that I get up...he did so by standing on me....I guess he wanted his breakfast. I have no need for a clock as long as he is around..he knows his routine and he sticks to it.. The rain was not the only reason I did not go...Thursday morning I started a small group of heifers on a synchronization poprotocol to time breed them next Saturday afternoon. One of the heifers didn`t think much on the idea and she decided to try to run me over....let me state clearly and with as much macho bravado as I can muster, that she did not run over me. However she did suceed in knocking me aside and banging me into a panel...I claim sucess because had I gone down I would. Have been under the feet of eleven head. Suffice it to say that the offender...was the next animal down the chute... Fortunately i did not have a pistol on me at the moment or we would have been eating beef all weekend. I didn`t think there was a any damage other than my pride...but I did bang my ribs . I realize last night that I had hit the same spot where I broke a couple last winter....they are not busted this time but they sure are sore. So the rain was a good excuse not to ride. Not sure I could have mounted or dismounted as much as it hurts to get on the Tractor or in the truck. So I vacuumed and cleaned a little, washed some laundry and cooked some stuff to eat this week The I sat down in the recliner to watch tee vee and about 4:30 my four legged alarm clock woke me up to put some wood in the stove and go feed the stock. Cows, horses, donkeys and goats all tuned up and chimed in when I stepped out the door... Got to get an early start in the morning..have to drive to Roanoke to assist in a presentation....have lunch and drive back...the rest of our staff went up today for the VASWCD annual meeting and will be there thru wednesday.. The office should be peaceful for a day or two. Show quoted text
