[QUOTE="SPH, post: 1035086, member: 20580"] We breed Herefords and around $25-35 a straw is the average. We register our purebred herd so non-certificate AI sires are a bonus as some will want another $50-100 for a certificate. One of the most used Hereford AI sires right now is MSU TCF Revolution 4R and he is a $25/straw non-certificate sire through Genex and we have had some great looking calves out of him. Also used Hyalite On Target 936 this year and he is $30/straw and also non-certificate. The commercial breeder down the road finally got convinced it was time to try breeding some of their black cows to a Hereford bull and used Revolution this summer too. Maybe one of these days we can convince them they could save some money by buying a bull from us but they are one of the "old timers" that still have a stigma about having a white faced bull on the farm so maybe after they see how good their black baldy calves do they'll wise up to using a Hereford bull in the pasture too.
