Hi all,
As of now we have adequate moisture in our fields so grass is coming on, but i'm afraid we may have another severe drought this summer. The hay supply here in the Arklatex is very low because everyone wanted it last year to feed their cows. So if worse comes to worse and the drought comes back, what are some other roughages we could feed our cows to substitute for hay or grass? Would cottongin trash work? The cheaper the better obviously... as long as we could supplement our cows so they receive adequate protein. Thanks.

Cotton-gin trash is good for fibre.
Be careful they can starve to death on it if thats all they get.
And storage CAN be a problem if they wet it down at the plant.

Peanut Hulls, Soybean Hulls, cottonseed hulls, CGF all can be used to stretch grass or hay supplies.
