Back in the 70's & 80's FarmTrac India was making some of the 2000/3000 tractors under contract with Ford based on Ford spec's. When Long returned with help from Escort India (holder of FarmTrac) they used the same factory (FarmTrac) as the old 2000/3000 Fords. I read somewhere that Escort purchased some rights from Ford to make some of the old Ford designed engines. I also believe since the Ford was a pretty popular tractor that India intentionally made theirs to look like the Fords of old. This too leads many to believe it is the old Ford resurrected. Someone mentioned FarmTrac used Perkins engines. I contacted Perkins and they said NO they don't make engines for FarmTrac but if I look at the 8075 series it says Perkins power. I have also seen ads for the 7000 and 6000 series saying Ford engines. I guess this is the old Ford design. All other models seem to have the Daegu or Mitsubishi engines. So all is as clear a mud still. All I know for certain is, many of those who have bought the 5000 series and below say they don't hold up to working everyday. 1948-2002 Long Manufacturing built its first tractor in 1948. The company, however, soon stopped building their own and began importing tractors from Uzina Tractorul Brasov (UTB) and some Landinis. Long filed for bankruptcy in 1985, but returned by 1987 after a reorganization. In 1998, Long Agribusiness was purchased by the Escort Group of India. The Long name was dropped in favor of the Farmtrac brand.
