Tex, You are right in a previous statement: "There is nothing new under the sun". But I believe we are going through a cycle where people will do almost anything for personal benefit. Its nothing new and has happened through out history. Government today is mostly made up of people seeking personal gain at the expense of the people they rule. I say RULE because very few talk about Liberty, personal responsibility, and self government. The title I chose for this thread,"our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor" in my opinion tells a story of the character of the men who put their necks on a chopping block for the future of their country. "sacred honor" ...Who talks that way today? How many elected politicians would sign their death warrant knowing there would be a price on their head for something they believed in? The Founders were mostly wealthy. They could've carried on as they were and probably lived much better lives under King George than they did prior to The Declaration. The government the Founders created is not the same government as today. I believe comparing politicians of today to those men is an insult to them. So It hasnt always been that way. The Founders were not gods or something super human. They were just men , but men with integrity.
