Thought I might as well follow up with some photo's. Please keep in mind, these cattle were not bred to produce prime rib. They are athletes, just like bucking bulls and broncs. And they can thrive in tough country where most other cattle don't survive. Grand Champion Bull - a 3 year old. Breeder & owner Caliente Corrientes, New Mexico. Grand Champion Cow - also a 3 year old. Her owner entered her in the roping class, even though she hadn't been roped for quite awhile. She ran really good and so she placed there, too, and won the All Around award. Breeder & owner was Valley B Corriente, Missouri. Grand Champion Roping Animal - a 2 year old heifer this year. There are separate roping classes held for bulls, females and steers. The winners of those classes then compete for the Grand and Reserve titles. Breeder & owner Catale Corrientes, Oklahoma. It's not just a cattle show. Ropings are also held for the members. This young man is Kerry Osburn; he won the #13 roping as a header and also the #9 as a heeler. He also had the fast go in one roping, so he was the high money roper overall and that won him a saddle. Next year's show/convention will also be held in Clovis, New Mexico.
