They don't make them like they use too.</p><p></p><p>James Claude "Doc" Mathison</p><p>Monday, Aug 31, 2009</p><p>James Claude "Doc" Mathison, 90, passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009.</p><p></p><p>Born on Jan. 12, 1919, Doc was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Clara Mathison; wife and mother of his surviving children, Sarah "Peggy" Mathison; and an infant daughter, Faith Mathison.</p><p></p><p>Survivors who will miss him dearly include devoted, loving wife and caregiver Sara Siniard Mathison; sister, Evelyn Mathison Rutland, Teresa Mathison Waddell (Larry), Bruce Mathison (Beth) and Michael L. Mathison; stepsons, Shane Siniard (Paige) and Ronnie Siniard (Dana); and special niece, Martha Rutland Cornelius. Doc is survived by grandchildren who will remember their PaPaw fondly include Carrie Morgan Tucker (Donovan), Robert Morgan (Tiffany), Blair Mathison, Ben Mathison, Savannah Siniard, Perry Siniard and Kevin Siniard. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Chandler Mathison, Claire Tucker and Layla Morgan.</p><p></p><p>Doc was a member of "The Greatest Generation." He was born in Peeple's Valley and grew up on a farm during the Depression. During those years he learned the values of God, family, country and a strong work ethic. He graduated from Cass High School in 1939 where he played basketball. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the European campaign. He returned from Europe in 1945 and continued his career at Goodyear Industries. He worked third shift during his children's growing years so that he could attend their school and athletic functions. He retired from Goodyear after 41 years of service.</p><p></p><p>Doc enjoyed coaching many young men in baseball at the ATCO ball park during his life. He coached on the field and in the stands. He passed along his love for sports to his children and grandchildren.</p><p></p><p>Doc participated in his community through a lifetime membership in the Elk's Lodge, the American Legion and the VFW. He was a member of Atco Baptist Church.</p></blockquote><p></p>
