They tried to jack my premium too. Said I was a high risk for fire. I asked why. They fumbled around a bit then showed me their evaluation paperwork. It said I was so far from a fire hydrant and a fire station they had no choice but to jack it up. About triple. Fire hydrant is 50 foot from house and fire station was only 2 miles away. Maybe they wanted me to put a hydrant in the kitchen. My dog would love that! Friends cows got on road after a tree fell on his five strand fence. They refused to pay the claim when a woman hit the cows in the road. Said his fence wasn't in good shape. Who'd have thought a tree falling on the fence would have messed his fence up? Talking to a lady last week who is really upset. Adjuster came out and looked at water damage to her home and said it was because her home was built on top of a spring and they cut her a small check that would only pay for a fraction of the damages and if she cashed it she would be accepting their settlement and would have no recourse. Carpenter found the problem was a break in the plumbing and nearly half the flooring and some walls will need to be tore out and replaced. She is on a fixed income and couldn't pay to have her home repaired but wasn't about to accept the settlement and cannot get the adjuster to come back and see what the real problem is. Known the family a long time so I helped them out till they could get some justice out of Farm Bureau. She was sick. She has paid Farm Bureau for years and this is her first claim and they are rail roading her. I know another man who has been battling in court with them now for nearly three years after one of their customers fires destroyed several thousand dollars worth of his property. Farm Bureau says they don't have to pay since the State had permitted the burn and the landowner is not responsible for damages his fire did when it got out so they were not going to pay. He77, I got a driver's license and if I smash up someone's property I expect my insurance to pay but I guess with farm bureau things are different. They do have beautiful big buildings though. I'll give them that.
