I know you're wanting to know about feed. Cypress gave you some good tips on that. But, since the subject of your thread is 'Drought Management'..... My two suggestions for drought management are culling early and culling deep. Having feed lined up is great, but if we do this as a business, it is very difficult for us to feed ourselves out of a drought---especially one that starts in May. Have your culling plan in place before you need to use it. Just culling older cows that don't calve is something that really should be done anyway. Until you get down to culling the ones that makes your wife give you the silent treatment and makes you lay awake at night wondering if you screwed up, you probably haven't culled deeply enough. Last year, I kept three cull lists, instead of the one that I usually keep. And I don't mind admitting that when I loaded cows from that third list, I looked down the road for a long time after the truck left. But selling those cows that I really didn't want to sell is what let me save my resources for the ones that I could keep. Once you decide for sure that the year will be dry, go ahead and bite the bullet. Cull early and cull deep and don't look back---there's always more cows. Good luck.
