No bull, worth siring calves should be worth less than $1000.00 as a yearling and $1500.00 or more as a 1 1/2 yr old. This will not be the better end of the bulls to sell this spring. To buy a good quality, growthy bull, with better than avg. epd,s expect to pay $2000.00 or more, for yearlings. D.R. Cattle prices on every thing else is in the ball park unless you are looking for really top of the line reputation heifers, or cows.
The problem that has occurred in the angus breed is that their are so many breeders in some areas, that you can go out and get good quality ( not top quality) AI bulls out of good quality cows for $1000-1500. With the AI program the genetics have surpassed the demand. A commercial cow calf operater can easily call a bull supplier and get several good quality bulls for $1000 with a group purchase anymore. AI did some great things for cattle genetics- but also was a great detriment to some top cattle breeders- Same thing thats happening with the AQHA.
