I won't ever argue with anyone who thinks that the Angus gene pool has been diluted with other breeds. Lots of reasons to think so! Looking back to when things started getting weird with the cattle and more an more uncharacteristic stuff started showing up. Dr Spock, was named that because of his ears, not Angus ears at all! The Chi influence I think shows itself everyday and most everywhere go! Brown muzzles, brown or mousey tinge to certain cattle. I am not talking about dry or sun bleached winter hair on calves/and or cows. But animals that are slicked off and they still have a brown look to it. Had a cow that in the summer she would slick off and you would almost see a brindle in the cow. It was weird, she was a heavy duty thick cow, but the brindles always made me wonder with her lineage way way back. We sent her to town. There is a movement in the USA and Australia which is looking for the genetically pure cows. They must contain only certain pedigrees or more important aren't allowed to have certain pedigrees in them. As time passes by we mix up pedigrees more and more and there begins to be less and less of these "pure animals" around. I have always felt strongly, and through experience if I am going to lay out some GOOD cash to buy an animal, they must be free of certain bulls. I have passed up on lots of good cattle because of it but I don't want these genetics in my cattle that I am building around. Right or wrong, that's how I also feel. Traveler 722 created a lot of controversy as many people said that he threw scurs, that would defeat the sex linked theory but he is considered taboo because of that. I think we would be terrified to know what has been infused into the Angus breed.
