    CALF RE-introduced

I really don't htink so, although one heifer calf has done particularly well but she is a little older. I guess we'll wait and see, he doesn't seem to be getting potty yet and is eating all the time, anyway thanks again.

    CALF RE-introduced

Sooo, do you think her milk has come back? I've never heard of that, but i agree he 'll have to be weaned on the trailer. She is a smaller framed brangus cross and definitely a keeper, can't wait to see her second calf. Thanks guys.

    CALF RE-introduced

Ok, a little background, I've got a steer out of a heifer that got really sick about christmas. Took him in and doctored him, and he lived, bottlefed him and turned him back out. He's got a place to get in and get grain daily. Here is the deal, his momma has taken him back just as if he was born...

    Lick Tubes or Cake ????????????

novaman, I wasn't implying that you should ignore nutrition. I just think that a lot of folks are spending money that is not necessary, I had what I thought was some really sorry hay and I had it tested. Guess what? It really wasn't that bad nutritionally and the cattle ate it just fine once...

    Lick Tubes or Cake ????????????

I am certainly not the most knowledgable, I tried the tubs- cattle got the schitts, I tried the loose mineral- cattle won't eat it. I use mineral blocks and loose salt and they are doing fine, I do give them a little sweet feed or cubes occasionally just to keep them following a bucket, but very...

Watching your cattle sell at the barn

stocky, I know what you are saying about the favors and such, but I believe it was an honest mistake, maybe I'm naive.Where are you located because we're in the NE corner of OK? We've had a alebarn shut down in this area in recent weeks and ther were a lot of new buyers and more cattle. This...

Watching your cattle sell at the barn

Exactly what I was getting at,if I hadn't been there I would have got the check Fri/Sat, been mad all weekend and likely it wouldn't have gotten straightened out. I got it straightened out by paying attention BEFORE they wrote the check, I'll bet the guy with the holstein steer is really happy...

Watching your cattle sell at the barn

Well Cowdirt, I asked the buyer as he was getting his sheet printed what he gave for them, they were some of the last few sold, and he told me 94.50. We looked on his sheet and they were on there for .50,but it is easy to be confused, no I don't get to go as much as I'd like to.

Watching your cattle sell at the barn

MMMT , I really think it was an honest mistake, they resold a holstein steer about the same time. I don't think the order buyer would have complained though if I hadn't said something.

Watching your cattle sell at the barn

Took some stockers yesterday, 1 limi str, 1 angus/dairy str and 2 limi bulls. Overall avg 94.50@586lb, I was really pleased but the point of the post is when the 2 limi bulls sold, they entered the price for the cattle either ahead or behind them. Instead of 94.50, they entered .50,if I hadn't...

    mineral question

Don't mean to hijack, but what are the benefits of DE? How do you feed it? And thanks for the link dun. I cant get my cattle to eat any kind of loose mineral, have tried several type and quit buying it, they will lick the blocks though. Has anyone else ran into this? I'm thinking its the litter...

    Cow/calf profitability NEG $70 in 2010

If the basketweaver or the woodcarver sells his product, then wouldn't it be considered a small business? I do understand what you are saying Aaron but where do you draw the line as far as big/small producer? If the bar is set too high then the only ones raising beef will be the corporate farms...

    Cow/calf profitability NEG $70 in 2010

Aaron, normally I enjoy reading your posts, but that one went through me like a dose of salt. There is nothing wrong with having a hobby, and there is nothing wrong with using the tax laws to your advantage, don't you? The fact is more beef is produced by the small farmer than the big ones, and I...

    Starting a small operation

I think you have gotten some good advice so far, but no one has mentioned that when you draw up this agreement both of your parents need to be involved . They can offer you help and insight, and Experience. Partnerships can be a good thing, but you must keep good books. Sounds really exciting...
