i use a note book that i jot it down in. i keep track of mom's #, calf's #, color, sex, breed, birth date and sire. if we get a weight then i keep it. then once everythings on the ground i put it in the computer on a spead sheet and print it out for gramps so he won't argue with me.

simmentals or Fleckvieh simmentals would do good at producing meat. i've grown them to win carcass contests down here. another good choice would be Chianina. they are bred to give the largest cuts of meat possible.

i check ours about 3 times a month lol. never had anything happen so far. but anything black is going good right now. ive seen a few reds go for pretty good too.

thats strange. every one we've ever had calving while standing we had to help. but never had any problems with the ones laying down. and we've only had 2 occassions where the calf wouldn't come out due to the head and neck being flipped back over the shoulder.

:lol2: my gramps has named a few about like jkwilson. but i had to go to a ethics class and found it is unethical to name your cattle if they are being used for beef or for milk. i guess im highly unethical then :P

ive noticed line breeding leads to more behavior problems.

i had a simmi bull that would do that in his feed bucket the second i walked out there with the feed. he made me soo mad. but i got yelled at if i didn't feed bully.

we have 10 that are over 8. no problems and they still throw good calves!

my feed bin is an old freezer that broke. keeps the feed fresh for awhile and rats can't get in it. neither can coons.
