    Finishing A Wagyu

I have finished mine the same way I finish all others. Nothing different. Great results and my step son raved on the steaks. "best I have ever had"

    Golf Balls in pasture

we had a neighbor break up his place into 5 acre parcels a lot of golf balls started appearing by the third house I quit throwing them back across the fence. Started using them for nest eggs. Chicken snakes started eating them on occasion. I know of no problem with my cattle.

Is it a Myth or Not

I breed 'em. Better to have them calve out of my bull versus one of the neighbor's bulls jumping fence. I have nightmares to tell on that. I have hauled smaller ones to my home (small pasture there) as a fail safe.

17 month old heifer delivers healthy calf

One of mine calved at 17 months. Kept her and she calved on about 11 month intervals. Sold them all about 8 years back. Just have a few here at this place.

    Hay Unrollers

People criticize me for feeding "premium horse quality" hay to my cows. I don't own horses. I fertilize hay fields that are exclusively used for hay. I do let cows clean up the perimeter after I put up hay. Then they are off and back to their normal rotational pastures. But I get...

The good old days when things were bad

I took risks that they would not have taken. Sometimes I lost but most of the time is was successful. I never went in debt for toys or luxuries. But I went in debt for real estate if it penciled out. We have 8 rentals now. Houses worth more than I thought they'd ever be worth. Still owe...

The good old days when things were bad

I graduated HS and moved out. Been on my own for 45 years now. I owe my parents and grandparents an awful lot because they were so dang mean and made me work all the dang time. I am blessed. I have been seriously blessed. Maybe lucky too. Knew and worked with a lot of great folks...

    Hay Unrollers

Maybe CB will weigh in. He started it ! Those trampoline frames are all over the place. People get rid of them. Dusty Britches put me on to one up north of here about an hour. The rest of it is scrap iron. Gosh that was over 12 years ago. You can buy some of those fancy store bought...

    Hay Unrollers

Absolutely chevytahoe. You have to keep a good pasture to make it in this business.

    Hay Unrollers

If this works, here is a pic. One of the cradles is flipped over so that you can see the gussets. The gussets are a must for that much weight.

    Hay Unrollers

Caustic Burno posted about hay cradles and I looked at his design. I wound up building a dozen out of old trampoline frames. The round bales never touched the ground. My waste went to near nothing. I was feeding 12 bales a week so if I were to unroll it would render me unrolling two per...

    Introduction to Rotational Grazing

I'm going to differ on coastal Bermuda grazing intervals. My pasture sizes were not the same. Rotating into the hay fields to clean up the perimeter was out of routine but beneficial to protein intake and the quality of the grass.

I just want to say thank you

Collaboration is great. Unfortunately CT has lost a lot of great ones thru the years. It is a combination of old school and new fangled

    Record keeping-apps or program

I used to print a hard copy. Carry it in the truck. Redline any updates and then input it into the computer later on. Human factors and error were always an issue. But it kept me close.

Getting less at the sale barn

They started one of mine a dime cheaper than what they had been starting. Bidding slowed. People were looking to see what was wrong with the steer. I was upset. Then bidding took off and I actually ended up doing okay. I have never been back to that barn.

    DIY cattle sweep

Yes. Put together a few. Nothing wood tho. I was burned out in '90 and lost just about everything so I now use very little wood. Large Trampoline frames. use the curves for the top and bottom. Use heavy steel for your verticals and I welded sheep panels onto the steel. That is 5 foot...

    Black buzzards struck again.

The Mexican vultures have invaded here. Gray spots on their wings. My neighbor's cow was bellering a few years back. Gates locked so I jumped the fence. Called him and he was 6 hours away. Got over the hill and saw what was happening. Cow was running at the vultures and then others were...

Bud Box vs Bud Flow Tub ?

RDFF - I like your Medina Hinge in the center of the alley. You name them something different but they work the same. I can blind off the alley and just help cows in trouble right there in the Medina. Change out your "HD Panel" on the end to a gate and you are close to the set up I had...

    Sell out prices

You talking bout me ???? I keep enough to fill my freezer and piddle with. Sold the bigger pastures. Just have the small acreage at the house now. Still help out when friends or family have a need and I am available. Not much for myself any more. I miss all the calves but I don't miss the...

    Aggressive Bull

The buck deer that attacked me had been bottle fed then cut lose. No fear of humans. Bad news !!! No pictures folks. I was busting thru cedar brakes, beating myself to death, bleeding from scuffs. Photos never came to mind.
