    percentage of weight lost, live to table

    Hi All, am new to cattle, and had my first steer butchered. He was an angus x herford, angus x shorthorn cross. Live weight was 958, hanging weight was 653 and table weight (is that what you call it) was just under 300. SO... is this normal? It seems like A LOT of waste of the animal, 658 lbs...
