    Older bulls throw larger calves?

Agree. I'm also convinced the dam contributes ~ 60% or more to the resultant Bwt due to the above factors & her contribution of the uterine environment.

    Choosing who keeps the jewels

That covers a lot of bases in MO.

    Trusting you guys

Likely Hart's Wild Turkey. A mammoth bull who was competitive at major shows during the frame race & known for producing huge Bwt's.

    Keeping Horse warm

Being able to get out of the weather and a winter blanket is a plus. What kind of condition is he in? IE thin/moderate/good? Aged horses need TLC and especially going into harsh winters. Access to free choice quality hay and a supplement designed for old horses is helpful. Mine is 36 soon to...

Noob to Angus cattle and EPDs

Kudos to you! IMO extensive cattle records are a crucial component to the success of a long term production system. You've received a lot of good advise & food for thought thus far. As to your disappointment for not finding a mentor nearby I suggest you join a local cattlemen's association. You...

first time to sell at auction

Thats a really dandy calf...Red Angus? If you've won the weaning battle & have the resources to keep him until slaughter date, I'd eat him. BTW...smart to finally put him in with companions. Isolation causes all kinds of problems.

First calf heifer allowing other calf to nurse

Yes and especially with those endowed with an abundance of maternal instinct.

    Brand and vet inspection question

Be aware that you'll need your ducks in a row (DVM exam and respective state's DOA compliance of required paper work) in a timely fashion prior to the targeted shipping date. Especially important as the Covid deal has impacted normal turn around times of Govt institutions.

    Brand and vet inspection question

Ensure that you've complied with your and the destination state DOA's mandates. As SBMF stated as seller you're responsible for doing the paperwork & paying the associated fees.

    Vets

Might not be pertinent to the topic but having a tight calving season (~60 days) and limited resources its imperative to determine opens in a timely fashion. If preg checking is as stressful as you intimate, a review of one's operational procedures & DVM is in order.

    Vets

I cut my teeth with a DVM who started his practice in the dairy industry and went on to become a respected expert in equine reproduction. Had his arm in a bazillion cows & mares. Could call them to the day of delivery walking down the alley while palpating, step aside and do the next one...

We were talking about cow size

You're welcome...the pics of your cattle is a testament of a savvy cattleman. Me neither...life is good when your seed stock sires come from outfits who know a thing or two about real world cattle.

With that amount of damage I'd be inclined to set up a game camera to determine the culprits.

    Rats...Mice....Rodents....whatever

Barn owls kill an astounding number of rodents. Leased a place for years that had resident barn owls and more recently in a new place that had a nesting pair for a few years but sadly have now disappeared. Never used poisons for fear of killing non targeted species/dogs/cats. Research indicates...

Can a calf be alone or does he needs a buddy?

Ringworm is common in young animals and isn't a health threat. Normally buyers ignore it & bid according to the quality of the animals but with the market in the tank you might take a hit on that particular animal. All due respect to those who stated he'd be fine sans company I heartily disagree.
