    Asking for a friend…….

I like your state! It has been many years since we had a neighbor that did nothing with his cattle but gather and sell in the fall. We cut lots of scrub yearling bulls on the range. He actually thanked us for the job.

    Asking for a friend…….

He may or may not go through the trouble. His thoughts were tying it to a tree until the next sale and taking it in for the neighbor. Apparently a reoccurring incident. Thanks Ken

Most calves in this area born from February to May with some late ones. More people calving a little later every year.

    Ear infection or obstruction?

I truly believe there are different strains that respond better to certain drugs. The florfenicols have worked well for us.

    Protein or Energy

A few years ago at B.C. Cattlemen’s AGM they brought in a young lady from Nebraska to give a presentation on what feedlots expected cow/calf producers to do prior to delivering calves to a sale ring or direct to a lot. Weaned 60 days, double vaxxed etc. The gal left out the economical points on...

    Vaccinating calves

We make sure a calf is at least 2 weeks old before brand and vaccinating. Good, right, wrong, bad or indifferent, it works for us. Our oldest calves are only 7 weeks old when we start spring works. After turnout we may not see each and every one before October when we wean.

    Ear infection or obstruction?

My guess was Mycoplasma also. We normally use Nuflor or Resflor, whichever we may have on hand.

    Protein or Energy

2+ lbs per day on fresh weaned calves in 45 days is a fairly big request to make of them outside of a lot. Cover crop plus 5 to 7 lbs of corn or barley might do it.

    Blind cow

You ever see a calf born with blind, white eyes? Selenium usually the case.

    Blind cow

Vitamin A and or Selenium extreme deficiency can lead to blindness. Especially if cattle in very poor condition as these were.
