    Bad luck keeps on coming

Was this in Texas? If so the other dude's insurance had a $25 property damage limit, more than enough to cover your dad's $3k vehicle. How much property damage payment did they offer?

Sorry about that, it is a bad habit of mine. UMBI means uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury limit. DI is Disability Insurance.

Actually, rate increases are forced on them by the insurance commissioners. Their number one job is to make sure that a carrier has enough reserves to cover their claims liability. In this state, you get in trouble some what if you deny a claim you are legally liable for. You have up to 6...

Yes, the bodily injury liability limits are 30/60. $30k limit person with a $60k aggregate limit per accident. Ours is 25/50 here. I think all states that have a 25K property damage limit will be increasing that soon. Way too many vehicles out there that you can hit that costs more than $25k...

The value of a specific vehicle has nothing to do with liability rating. That comes into play when you buy property coverage... called comprehensive and collision coverage. ,Or as some call it, "full" coverage.

EXACTLY! I have been pushing this for 10 years in GA. We have about 10 agents or brokers in the legislature that have presented this in both houses, But the personal injury lawyers shut it down. The way it is now, if YOU drive my truck and hit someone, they can sue me and you, and collect off...

They do here too, @Silver. I guess @Shuttle50 was talking about property coverage.

True but your UM bodily and property damage limits can't be more than your bi/pd liability limits, and that does get expensive.

If you read your policy after you got it, there was a section that told what to do at claim time. Usually it is titled "How to file a claim". Do you know what carrier issued the policy?

You are correct. I have written a ton of equine mortality insurance, and yes, a vet has to certify cause of death. Same thing with cattle. If it weren't so, people would just call and say "my cow died", after they slaughtered her. Or sold her. Granted, people insure horses worth 5 figures and...

    Navel dip

I never dip, but I use a spray bottle for the iodine. Or used I should say. My last mare to foal was in 2006 or 7. Hooves and naval. I never thought of doing that to a calf, though. Makes sense, and it costs virtually nothing to do.

Bottle calf! Some say I'm crazy...

I went to the sale today to see if I might run up on a nurse cow for coach. Two 3-day old Jersy bull calves sold for $60 each. A black bull calf the same age and size, brought $110, Then a black steer calf that was 200- 250 lbs... brought $810.00!!! They had sold pairs first, and this calf...

Bottle calf! Some say I'm crazy...

I was gonna say...if this was my calf, I would just give it to you. But $50, is practically giving it to you. Have y'all banded it yet?

Well, you need to keep up with your time fooling with him, to charge off against the price he would ask. The time and effort that you are putting in has a dollar value. So does the time he is not having to put in. This calf wouldn't be worth a dime, if not for you and what you are doing.

    Vaccinating calves

bird dog said: Less than a month is not to young for respiratory vac's. Giving Inforce 3 early has helped reduce my sickness rate tremendously. Ok, we will do the calves with that next Saturday then.

    Vaccinating calves

@kenny thomas , I would, but we don't have any , yet. to read the labels. What happened was, our farri0er ( who is the vet's husband) and a buddy went rabbit hunting at the Kudzu place today. Scott had told them we didn't have anything over there, ..that the cattle were across the road on the...

At what age do y'all give your calves the first round of shots? Is less than a month too young?

    Protein or Energy

I wouldn't think she would want to, Murray. Especially any of her black ones. CAB requires the hot carcass weight to be less than 1100 pounds. Once an animal approaches 1600 lb or so, chances are the HCW will exceed that. It is a fine line you have to watch carefully. The man that Clay works...

    To much protein?

There was a row crop farmer that lived behind me growing up Cotton and beans were his cash crop, but he planted the field directly behind us in corn and oats. His brother-in-law had a dairy behind him. He'd get those calves and get them started eating crimped oats and ground soybeans as soon...

    Castration Question

AT his age and size, he'd do better, and you would do better, to just cut him instead of banding. Just get a single edge razor blade, cut off the bottom of the scrotum, then drop them out one at a time, and cut the chords as high up as you can. He will be over it about the time you let him out...
