    Cow down. Can't get up

I figured that there usually all the same.

    Lumpy Jaw

My oldest cow, and the first one I had on this place has it pretty bad. Her whole jaw is swollen, it's been that way for over 2 years, she's keeping her weight pretty good. If they get it when their younger, it's pretty much a death sentence, the infection gets into their jaw bone and they can't...

    Cow Won't Get Up

Mabey we should've told him to just shoot her, it doesn't look like he'll be back here anyways. At least she was a younger cow, maybe had a chance.

    Bald around the eyes.

Thanks guy's for the good advise. I picked up some anti-fungal foot cream yesterday and smeared it around his eye's and on a bald spot on his head. The other calf thats in with him had some bald scally spots on it's forhead and behind it's ears so I speared some on her too. I've got an older...

    Bald around the eyes.

I did some shearching and found some more info on the topic. That got me thinking, some of the older cows have little bald spots on them, and they've been scratching. Is ringworm just isolated to younger animals? Now my wife figure's that her horses have it and we got into a big argument about...

    Bald around the eyes.

Good, that's what I was hoping it was, I just wanted to make sure. Don't You think though if he has it, wouldn't the other cows have it, it had to come from somewhere? He's not really one that I can pet or scratch very much, how would I know if I had it? Maybe I gave it to him. :) I tried to do...

    Bald around the eyes.

That's what it was looking like to me, when I was viewing some pictures on here a couple of months ago, but I wasn't sure.

    Bald around the eyes.

  I just spent the last 45 minutes writing this up and when I reviewed it, something wasn't right, so I hit the back button and it said the webpage has expired and I lost everything.  I'm not going to do it all over again, so here are the details. 9 month old bull calf...

    calf layed down and will

Everyone is in a pissin match over this, and the original poster asked his question and is gone. Probably never to return like so many others. I think the next time that a newby comes on here and asks a question about a sick calf, we should all tell him to shoot it.

    blister beetles?!

We had that problem one year with one of our mare's, she was they only one to get sick. We believe that it was the pigweed in the hay we bought that year, but I don't think we came up with a positve answer.

    Sick Cow

I'm not sure, but it sounds to me that you should find a different vet. You should also take it's temp. and post that too, so people who have more experience than I could offer you some better advise.

    Infection from Banding?

Do you think that he would have been better off cutting this bull instead of banding him?

    Cancer Eye

Why can't you make her into hambugar after the calf is weaned, if she makes it that long?

    It's Johnes

Now that the virus is in the cowpies that are still in the pasture and corral, what do you do to clean everything up? Does the virus die after it's been exposed to air after a while? Can't imagine spreading the tainted manure on your fields and spreading it to every cow on the farm.

    health

Maybe he's just cold, I'm weak getting up when I'm cold, and it's been pretty cold up here the last couple days. Maybe I need some antibiotics.

    Sick Cow

Get a temp. and call your vet. Your going to need drugs for that steer that only he can get you. Don't go down to the feed store and buy what they have. Get a vet, before it's to late.

    about that sick calf

Thans guys for all your help. Angie, that was a great story with a lot of insight to where your coming from. I think 2 or 3 at a time will be enough for me, I don't think I'll be doing this anytime soon. I just thought it would be neat to indroduce something different to the herd. We may try...

    about that sick calf

It sounds like a lot of people go through the same thing as I had with buying cattle from sale barns and so called ranches like I did. The difference between them and me is that I wasn't prepared, heck I even waited a week before posting anything on here, for fear of getting beat up. A good...

    another sick calf question

The little one died last night, but the bigger one is getting better. I'm still waiting for the vet to call me back. He has to call the vet down here and o.k. it before they'll give me the nuflor. Whats the big deal ,It's just antibiotics. It would be nice to get a hold of some for next time...

    another sick calf question

.One can only do so much with what he's got. Everyone was riding me to get a vet and some banamine, so I took the vet advice, thats what he went to school for 8 years for. Now it's ls-200 still isn't going to cut it we told you so. I didn't give them the real milk replacer, I doubled the soy...
