    Calf That Is Not Growing

The problem heifer is now looking no different than the animals that were born this spring, she is still suckling at is still on her mom and is almost 11 months old. Her mom was bred this spring, we think, and we plan to wean her in about 1 month. She is a little bit healthier and she has not...

    Calf That Is Not Growing

This morning we saw/took a picture of the calf nursing so I will post that later on, but the calf nursed for 5 minutes straight so we took that as a good sign, and I don't think that the mom is dry because her bag has always been that small, and we have seen her milk let down when she does not...

    Calf That Is Not Growing

So I did get three pictures today, and I am VERY sorry that they are not the best pictures. This first one is of the problem calf, she is nine months old: This next one is a comparison of a three month old bull (front) and then her in the back: This final one is of the mother, Suzanne:

    Calf That Is Not Growing

Because it is easier and we only have about 20 mother cows, we like to only have a calving season in the spring. But, we do breed out heifers at about 18 months, so that they will calve when they are about 2 1/2 years old. We will have our heifers calve in the early fall and then breed them back...

    Calf That Is Not Growing

The picture was taken on 10/20/12, so the calves were again about three weeks old. I will try to go out and get a picture of them right now, so sorry if the picture quality is bad.

    Calf That Is Not Growing

No, no, no. I must have phrased it incorrectly, they are both first calf heifers at 2 1/2 years old. The other mom that has the smaller calf but that is still growing has an UTTER that looks like it is 5-6 years old. But the mom that is having this issue you have already seen above.

    Calf That Is Not Growing

We thought that the reason that these moms had this connection because after being bought in Oklahoma at a yearling, and had never really spent a day without each other.

    Calf That Is Not Growing

Yeah, maybe, but the other mom is a first calf heifer and has a 5-6 year old bag so she should be producing, but I know that a big bag is not a sign of milk capacity.

    Calf That Is Not Growing

The bull and the heifer stopped growing at around 3 weeks old like I said before, but the bull calf also was slowly growing, but he still was. He now looks like 7 months old, instead of nine, and his mom is the shortest in our herd, so that could also be partly from him. So yes, but these two...

    Calf That Is Not Growing

This is the second time that I have tried to post time comment, so sorry if it comes up twice, but: I will attach a picture of the cow and her calf. There is another one that is also nursing because she and another mom would allow ONLY their calves to poach on each other. The one on the right is...

    Calf That Is Not Growing

I forgot to add, that when the calf was born she was fully devoloped at 64 pounds, she was very normal until she was about three weeks old. Here is a picutre of her just born with her mother: Here is her at about the time that she stopped growing (3 weeks)

    Calf That Is Not Growing

I know that some people are asking why do I wait and pull of the calf right now rather than in a month, first of all, as a lot of you think, the cow is quite fat, before we have bought cows that have "hips" which is what we call a cow that has been forgiven for loosing a pregency and then bred...

    Calf That Is Not Growing

Thanks for the help! I think that I will see how the mom will do with her next calf now that she should be breed. In response to rockridgecattle, the mom calved a day after the first mom did, so yes she was right on track with the other animals. We are probably will be pulling the calf off the...

    Calf That Is Not Growing

Here is a picture of the mom heavy in calf, you really can't tell the difference in the weight from back then to now. She is just as filled out if not more with that calf still on her.

    Calf That Is Not Growing

We are actually keeping the calf on for so long because we have a HUGE fear that the mom will get to fat, and then she will not breed back. In answer to your question, no the mom is not have nutrition problems.

    Calf That Is Not Growing

Did I also say that I really am finding a way around selling the mother because she was a GORGOUS Murray Grey Cow, and she was bought at 18 months for 1800. I am fine with the calf going in, but I would prefer that the mother wouldn't because she is still young (3 years.)

    Calf That Is Not Growing

Her mom calved in the fall, so she is just being bred this spring, and two about 2 months ago she got a round of cydectin. And she still isn't growing, any more thoughts?

    Calf That Is Not Growing

This fall, I had a calf, heifer, born that grew just fine for the first three weeks to a month, then she suddenly "stopped" growing. I won't say that she complelty stopped growing, but she is not noticably getting any taller. Now at about 9 months old she looks like a 3 1/2 month old calf. Her...
