    Homozygous polled bull and scurs

I use only registered Angus and most are from names everyone recognizes. I don't think the sex-linked portion of scurs is fully researched or there are multiple genes for scurs....some that aren't sex-linked

    Homozygous polled bull and scurs

So I have 10 descendants of 07807 in the herd. It's not a trait I specifically look for but half, at least, have scurs. So of those I know have it, they are all daughters of her that come from TC Total 410. I currently have 23 other direct daughters of Total in the herd and countless...

    Homozygous polled bull and scurs

This doesn't explain the scurs following very specific female lines.

    Homozygous polled bull and scurs

You're funny. I'll share examples this week. I have more than enough matings for a research project. You're pretty much asserting that TC Total 410 had scurs that went unnoticed in every herd except mine then the only mating that happened to cause scurs in his offspring were also from the same...

    Homozygous polled bull and scurs

I have commercial Angus. If the literature were correct, my scurred cow crossed with a bull with no scurs should produce a female with no scurs. If the bull had scurs then it should show in 50% if his male offspring and up to 25% of his granddaughters. None of that is the case. It is isolated...

    Homozygous polled bull and scurs

Basically I'm breeding 200 cows a year to registered Angus. I keep replacements all from an AI bull I usually rotate every 2 years. If you're correct and popular Angus bulls actually have scurs, then it would quickly spread through my herd and others. The fact that it is only in two maternal...

    Homozygous polled bull and scurs

I know what the 1970's literature says on the subject. My question is: if it takes 2 copies to express in a female, and I have several females in a family line expressing, why aren't their steer mates, sires, or 3/4 female cousins ending up with scurs?

    Homozygous polled bull and scurs

I question the sex-linked logic. I've had two cows with scurs and every daughter retained has them. Registered Angus sires. In my experience, it is a dominant trait in females.

select sire bull named progression ?

http://www.naab-css.org/naab/beefdb.htm You can go to that site and type in Progress in the 3rd option. There are no red angus listed as progress, progressive, progression etc. Mostly just black angus. I think you have the wrong name. The cane code should be written on top of the cane. If you...

Black Angus bull crossed with a Holstein cow

Don't do it. It's not even a sure thing they'll be black and polled. Modern holstein are over 1600lb too.

You don't want remarks about minis then you include the term "frakenbeef" Good luck with your hobby.

Angus bulls sold without registration papers

There were a lot of bulls that sold in the past few years as commercial due to too much white. Prophet sired cattle seemed to be the most common. I heard some want to relax the association rules on white markings some. Not sure if that will gain traction or not.

    Understanding Genotype info

I would ask the lab you sent the samples to if they have any kind of results that they can share. It'll be up to your own situation whether you find the cost of the test economically feasible. I don't raise registered cattle. I mostly do it so I can test the commercial replacements with the...

    Understanding Genotype info

So when I get my bulls tested I get a report on the percentiles they rank for each category there is a test for. Then when the next EPD run is done (every Friday for Angus) the info is incorporated into their EPDs. It can change the value of the EPD itself but more importantly it changes the...

    Understanding Genotype info

I'm more familiar with the Angus process but I'll take a stab at it. The abbreviations you put are the types of lab results the association has on the animal. I don't know what karyo is but bld would most likely be blood. The dna, 50k, and snp would all be variants of dna tests. With Angus...

What AI bulls are you using this breeding season?

Just weaned GAR Prophet calves and bred cows to Deer Valley All In for Spring. For the Fall calving cows it seems to be down to those two bulls. I will probably go with All In since I have several Prophet daughters I will be breeding. I like to breed the herd to as few bulls as possible.

Homozygous Polled Blonde d´Aquitaine cattle is a reality!

If you have a rare breed then come and beat your drum. Where else will we hear about it? I find it interesting whether it be an ad or not.

World's Tallest Cow is a Holstein

I tend to agree with this assessment. I would add that she's becoming immobile and i don't think she should be a pet much longer.

World's Tallest Cow is a Holstein

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-29624760 They have a short video of the cow on that link. The cow is 13 years old and doesn't move well at all.
