Post a pic of your bull

I'm liking the look of this boy "Lego" , I think he's 9 months old now and quite a hunk... no special food, just milk and grass PB Gelbvieh, could be registered but haven't bothered My friend's black angus bull in the background there is a sucker for attention

    Changing herds?

I like being able to tell my cows apart, but I do like them uniform enough they match.. I found that you don't even really have to stay with a single breed to do that if you don't want to, but you should have the same criteria across breeds

    Cow Longevity

definitely, I've only ever bought one heifer, but to have a bull that comes from such a place is a good thing too

    Cow Longevity

The breeder I get my bulls from had one cow up into her mid 20's, she'd had like 22 calves I think? I'm happy if the majority of my replacement heifers make 10 years (and that's not the case at all).. One year I had a nice group of 6 replacement heifers and they all made 10 years, but I've had...

    Cow Longevity

with my old girl I just gave her a couple pounds of COB a couple times a week, really not a lot but it helped her out

    Cow Longevity

Within reason, I don't care when the old cows calve.. My oldest cow had one of her later calves in early may rather than early march... couldn't tell her calf was 2 months younger at weaning time, and she did catch up the following year.

    Any Gelbvieh Breeders In Here?

More like the cows will milk themselves skinny, especially the younger ones

    Show me your herd bull

    Show me your herd bull

couldn't get a very flattering pic of my other bull calf.. born end of april, PB Gelbvieh, but he's got lots of length and meat on him

    Show me your herd bull

A week old here, so a little early to tell, but his maternal brother has become a great bull, 3/4 Gelbveih.. He's looking good so far

    Killing the Little Man

As long as the marketing is truthful, I don't have a problem with it.. CAB did a great job of marketing, though its truthfulness is questionable.. Australian Wagyu, if it's indeed that and that's what the consumer wants, well.. that's their choice

    Killing the Little Man

the price of equipment has doubled in the last 10 years (and the price and likelihood of needing service has too), so has the price of fuel, labor, and everything else, and the price of your product? Be happy if it ain't less Small wonder that young people don't want to get (or stay) in it

    Gate jumper

Have you seen some people try to open and close gates? I'm pretty sure the cows are smarter than some of them

    Gate jumper

This innocent looking brat jumped the electric fence to come graze in the yard.. thankfully as gravity kicked in she stopped that

    Bull prospect

I think heterosis is far overrated.. I see no appreciable gains from the outcrosses than the linebreds.. maybe if you go to vastly different breeds AND have linebred animals from them you'd notice it?

    Bull prospect

I'm no expert in breeding cattle, and my sample size is small, but I don't regret doing some linebreeding. I found I just never had good animals from a mating that resulted in more than 50% influence from any parent/grandparent.. breeding siblings/cousins, etc has made me a lot of great...

Neighbors Mini Longhorn bull got in with my Angus Cows

That calf looks more speckle park / white park than longhorn to me. Agree, craigslist is probably they way to market them

    Debating Bull Breeds

At this point I wouldn't be super picky about what bull I use on those cows as long as it's easy birthing.. Once the cows put some condition on and have the resources to make a decent calf you'll get a better idea of where they need improving, and if it's worth trying to improve them.. Selling...
