Moved a Fall herd this evening. Was pretty hot today so it was late in the evening. My oldest herd made up of mostly angus cows and a few other skittles. Will preg check them Wednesday and wean their calves to background till a preconditioned calf sale in August. Putting in some annual pastures...

    Getting the Boys Ready

Varied ages. The oldest Hereford which is in the far back is 6YO, the two front and center are 4YO and 2.5YO. Black bulls are 18 months to 6 years old. Big balancer wasn’t in the photo because he was still taking his sweet arse time getting in the photo. He’s a beast so he can take his time!

    Getting the Boys Ready

Went to get bulls up to have them ready for their bull soundness exams next week. They walked right into the catch and put their heads down eating and behaving better than I expected. Will turn out next week after BSE is completed.

If you were starting a new herd from scratch..

Gotcha, same up here in VA about red calves vs. black or BWF. I’ve threatened to keep every heifer Red Baldie that is calved on our farm and have a whole herd of them some day. Run back on homozygous black Bulls and no one would ever know their mommas are red baldies. I get tired of the red ones...

If you were starting a new herd from scratch..

Oh yeah I’m a Texan born and raised just live in VA now. East Texas was another country to me growing up in South Texas! Knowing what I know now I don’t know why people even run cows in parts of Texas, it’s REAL work! 😁

If you were starting a new herd from scratch..

In Texas I’d have to look at medium framed red angus or Santa gertrudis bred to polled Hereford bulls.

That was us last year. We had a heavy frost on May 24th and all turkey season we were in our Fall/Winter hunting gear it was such a cold Spring. Grass took forever to get going and our first cutting of hay was abysmal. Hope things turn around for you soon!

No rain or hasn’t warmed up yet for the grass to grow in Kansas? We are being blessed with a great Spring so far, hay fields are thick this year compared to last year!

Max price on a Bull for commercial use

First time I've purchased from Quaker Hill. Bulls seem to be enjoying their heifers since turn out a few days ago. We will see about their longevity. One was a little more conditioned than I would have liked but again I thought he was great for the price. Most of my herd bulls are from Knoll...
