Suggestions on Angus bull to use ?

CC7 was a great bull. He did add frame. He also would sire the most gentle and docile calves. You could breed him to a Water Buffalo and have a child show their calf.

This is a January '23 gelbvieh that I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on. Not many local gelbvieh breeders and I thought about trying out these folks. Pretty average EPDs but I liked his dam alot. Not great pictures but I'd welcome any feedback. Hard to notice, but he does have small scurrs.

    Bull shopping

Reminds me of my situation years ago: Thread 'NIGHTMARE' https://www.cattletoday.com/threads/nightmare.91472/ Still burns at me.

Wow never seen that. Doesn't look like frostbite damage. . kinda cute, but probably not desirable. Maybe they'll grow out

23 is probably more smooth and stylish, but 28 has the look of a good herd bull to me

I think lot 28, 23, and 24 would be my picks from the pictures. Add in the EPDs and I'd definitely go with 28 (I use angus on heifers).

I can't get those weights with fall calves without a little supplement. Our spring calves exceed those weights without any, but it's hard to get much growth over the winter.

I was referring to the 800+ weights.

I don't think it would be possible to achieve those weights without a great deal of feed supplement, but I don't recall what they brought at market. Just remember feeling very burned.

Several several years ago with our fall calving herd I creeped the calves with a free choice high quality corn gluten based feed. I put out the creep when they were about 1 month old. When they were around 6 mos old, I left them on the free choice feed after I weaned. I sold them around 45 days...

Looked up her record and this old girl hit 20 yrs this past February. She still maintains her condition and I have at least 4 of her daughters in the herd.

I had one of them there epiphanies this morning.....

Agreed. The only purebred animals I own is the bulls. No question angus, hereford, and Brahma are the most influential breeds in the US.. with the key being to keep the % Brahma as low as possible. 250 pairs on 450 acres? I'm not from your area, but that seems like way too many head for...

    Gate jumper

At least he was a gentleman and didn't tear anything up during his escape..

    Simmental bull

If extra growth in your calves is your main goal, I think you'll be pleased with this bull. As I recall, your herd is composed of mainly angus and hereford cross; you should get some good heterolysis pop by using this bull

    Lim Flex

I have used gelbvieh, sim, and limo bulls on our angus based cows, and I have always thought that the limflex calves were the best. Good growthy calves and I prefer the limflex replacements by far for cows. Hard to find a good Limousin breeder around here though, so I've went with Sim bulls...
