Not only will they stick their heads in strange places and get stuck....but they will try it again and get stuck the second time as well. If one of ours gets their head stuck somewhere I need to patch it or they would keep getting stuck until they hang themselves. I never had one hang himself...

Probably the one thing we changed was using corn silage in the winter feeding program for our cows to replace much of the hay. You have to be careful not to get them fat but it is a lot cheaper.

Saw on an Ag show once where a dairy farm used PVC pipe that they poured concrete inside (at least the posts). Don't remember if they poured concrete in the horizontal sections. They used it in the holding pen areas where the cows would rub against it a lot. They liked it because it did not...
