    Fence

Hamiam there's a whole lot of us that learned to weld in HS. We've burned a lot of rod in the 50 years since then. The more you weld, the better you become.

    Fence

We had a neighbor like that. His cows were starving and they had to go somewhere. You learn to never plant winter wheat in the pasture that adjoins that neighbor. You almost need a buffer zone of land.

    Over all drought.

We're still under a burn ban. An inch and a half 3 weeks back. Most of it evaporated in the 90 degree days following. A half inch yesterday. Not much hope. Maybe sew some clover later if it starts raining.

    Father time

Caustic I have not bought a hunting/fishing license in 5 years or so. That's awful ! My bow is covered in dust. I suspect the arrow fletchings are probably dry rotted. Its embarrassing.

    Rusk Mental Institution

Trash hay is going for $110 a round bale. You can find good hay for $150 TSC is asking $165 for round bales that don't look great. Everything is burned up. Trees dead. Cactus dying. Fires every day. I'm feeding one momma and two steers. Sure glad I don't have 85 mommas in the...

    Rusk Mental Institution

I had to pout a new A/C in the big rent house in town. One of the nice rentals in the country is vacant. I decided to sell it. Have the contractors in there now refurbishing everything. It has well pump problems. Rented a 20 yard roll away for the contractor trash plus clean up of the...

    Big Cats

In '79 we ran in to a mountain lion on the Brazos one night. Scared the dickens our of us but since we were three he fled. Hundreds people were in denial that we had them in this part of Texas. I was merely trying to give folks warning. There's no mistaking the tail length of one when you...

    Bees in water troughs

In theory, yes. But they still die with hardware cloth. Likely less but you don't truly know. Bees only live about 3 weeks after they begin to forage. The dead ones could have been on their last leg to begin with. At least that where my curiosity goes. I look at their wings and see some...

    Bees in water troughs

I had boards. But now they go after my chicken waterers. They don't seem to have issues with those. I suppose they can get to the sides.

    Bird Repellent?

these are metal I have some store bought opposing swirls that are in the middle of the peach orchard. A squirrel cage I kept out of an old central air unit I had replaced. It stands vertical now on top of a piece of 2 inch tube steel. A top hat on top of it throwing strange angular swirls...

    Bird Repellent?

Don't waste any skynyrd on birds. The tape is actually great for streamers and it reflects light well. Whirly Gigs helped us. All in the orchard. Rubber snakes hanging from each peach tree. rubber snakes on the berry trellises. My wife wanted a corner jig for stain glass so I built...

    Oh hail

We also get those clusters with 3 or 4 pingpong balls stuck together up to 3 or 4 baseballs too. Biggest I've ever seen. Right thru the car windows. Don't think I have seen grapefruit or softball size. Just baseballs stuck together and that was awful.

are you old enough to remember 60 years ago today the Cuban missile crises began

I was too young. Born in '59. First tragic memory was JFK assassination. But - what you need to remember is this was just over 20 years after Pearl Harbor. That generation was tuned in to reality. They all took this serious and it was serious.

The banks have control of my money. I look at my 401K investment portfolio and they tell me what I hold. I pull out a tube of francs and they’re right there in my hand Tangible. Bank cannot freeze them. Never put all your eggs in one basket. Situations drive markets and commodities...
