    That time of year

Is rattle snake the only one worth a mention, or the only you have had? Anyone compare flavor or texture, breeds or by size? Saw a nice size moccasin that was quicker than I was.

    Warmer days = bass biting

We always used corn for carp and catfish back in Chicago. Billy McCann(?) My brothers friend from down the block, took me fishing, when I was like 5yo, in a pond and we caught perch. We gutted them and cooked them on a fire while catching more. I was "Hooked". We were in the city so archery...

    Warmer days = bass biting

Nice! I tried a few days ago here at the pond. 3 bites, no takers on a rubber craw. Tried 4/5 lures and they only hit the crawfish. Nothing left in the pond after the neighbors had molested it. Couple years ago I had 20 casts, 18 landed, all nice pan fish. There is hope, lots of tiny fish by the...

    Elk

You obviously do need DNA proof that the birth defects and mortality wasn't genetics. Just because you say it doesn't make it true. Science isn't what it used to be.

What do you consider small? Google says $350k or less. Ok you got me, 2 million registered small farms. Did you register? I'm not large enough. That's lottery money in my eyes. Due to the cost of equipment and maintenance alone, I see people cut their fields or let them get overgrown. Not many...

    Elk

I don't think it's the smaller producers that add much to the issue. Think of all the land that is NOT being farmed for one reason or another. We as a country went from millions of family producers to a couple thousand producers in 100 years. Little as 50 years ago people expected to work and...

    Want Solitude?

Back country is only scary if you have to be somewhere. People made it for the last few thousand years in the "wilderness". We (humans) are programmed to be dependent on everything like time, money, comfort, debt etc. Give those up, it gets easier. If you have nothing, you have nothing to loose.

    Elk

I have been to the bison enclosure a few times over the years. We liked to ride the back roads of LBL to check out wildlife. We see it here now on the farm, so haven't been up there since my son is out of college. He went to Austin P for a few years, would stop there now and again. Not enough...

Past years, we have had deer out in the fields almost all year, but NOT this year. Have seen maybe a hand full. Very low numbers this year.

Opening morning deer rifle in Texas

So I saw the doe and the twins last night up by the barn as I was putting up the chickens. On the way back to the house, I heard the neighbor take a couple shots in complete darkness, during archery season. Rifle doesnt start until Saturday! Same guy that shot my turkeys last year. Raised them...

Opening morning deer rifle in Texas

Sat last night in a 2man stand. Saw a doe with twins sneak in and hang out for about 5 minutes about 15yards. In that 5 min I watched the twins nurse on her. Wow! First time for that.... Told my wife I watched the meaning of life.
