@Georg, welkom pel. Ek het america toe getrek (van suid afrika/UK) so 12 jaar terug en bly nou in Texas. Moer groot plaas wat jy daar het maar die reen is maar skaars! We get about double the amount here in central Texas. I've always said that the only way to price land is by carrying capacity...

    Hi from Central Texas!

I'm a little south of you near Hamilton. Have the similar soil, need to find the same answer. I have a ton of thistle but when baled cattle should eat it. My biggest challenge is the amount of nightshade, dang stuff is everywhere. About a third of our ranch has been neglected pretty heavily and...

Hi from a new ranch owner in Central tx

Got my ag number figured out (thanks for recommendation @Shoestring) and picked up a 20' container which will get me through for now. @wbvs58, going to follow your container advice and keep em small. I'm looking hard for a tractor and mower/shredder, might run up to Dallas and look at one this...

By roping arena, you mean Circle T? It's a pretty neat facility, we've raced out there a few times. Restaurant is pretty good but I'm not super picky... meat was tasty, veggies were good, beer was cold. 😁

I'm not sure about the applicator permit, don't think I'll be ready to do that for a while but good to know it's a thing here in tejas. I think my main next step remains a container for storage, a mower and secure the perimeter fence. Then get some youngsters in, experiment with grazing and see...

Hi from a new ranch owner in Central tx

That's awesome advice, appreciate the insight and love the advice on how far to stay away from the road 😂. Sounds like we have the lack of accountancy and investment skills in common! I'll take my time on the 40', no damn way I feel good spending what I've been told today was a good price -...

Hi from a new ranch owner in Central tx

Thanks. It's around 130acres, going to start small and let a few cows tell me what's edible and what needs to be disked in. Lots to learn about local grasses. Got a thistle problem in a few areas, one pasture overgrown with mesquite.

Hi from a new ranch owner in Central tx

Thanks. Good call on proximity to brand, will try to do majority of repair myself which means I need a tractor and mower from the 1970's!

Hi from a new ranch owner in Central tx

Just purchased a small ranch in Hamilton county, looking forward to figuring out how things work out here. Grew up on a dairy farm on a different continent, know enough not to do that again. The ranch is a somewhat distressed, a little overgrown but it'll clean up nicely. Other than an old house...
