Positioning of brace post or pipe.....

Top and bottom. 52 inches apart. Weld a 4 foot section of cow panel onto it.

Best knot for HT barbed wire

You're the expert. No one should argue. It seems every splice I do is different. Different wire, different age wire, wood posts, steel posts etc. At times I find myself stretching out 50 or 100 foot versus a single splice and roll wrappling a weak section of wire. There's simply no way...

    TP shortage, again?

We had bought those rent houses. All needed work. My wife stocked up on cleaning supplies and I stocked them all with shampoo, soap, TP, and paper towel. Non perishable food and such too. We spent a total of six months working on them most weekends and living in them while we worked. Just...

    Ideas on Strengthening Gates

Add me to the list of panel reinforcement support. 2 inch tube steel outside frames. 1 1/2 inch works too. I usually use what ever I have available for verticals in the intermediate positions. Angle, or scrap pipe, or anything will do. Weld 4 inch grid utility panel onto the gate when I...

    Gate hinges

You can take mine down with a grinder. A cutting torch will work too.

    Do you believe in .....

My grandkids find the treasure. Broken gold chains, rings, decent coins. Trevor found a religious coin. Jesus on front and the last supper on the back. I thought he'd found a silver dollar until we cleaned it. I took mine to Navarre Beach last year. I found a modern dime and 17 hot wheels...

    Corner braces?

Mine had a gate in it dead center. Pipe and metal and no wood. The oilfield equipment trucks took out my corner posts over and over and over. They told no one and you'd get that 2 a.m. call that your cows were out. They had room but not enough experience. So we cut out the corners and put...

    Corner braces?

Computer Aided Drafting and Design it seems. They've never been on a board or put lead to paper. They don't know what a scum bag is or what it is for. Each print out is a first generation print. That's kind of nice. Slow process but really fast when you do revisions to drawings.

    Corner braces?

I have to draw it. Now days we have cadd operators who draw it for us. For bended pipe or tube, I show the degree of bend on the drawings and not the projected angles. The cadd kids are always changing my representations for 30 degree bends or 45 degree bends. For instance if I want a 45...

Alternative to PVC for watering systems?

Good idea. Pressure is not the issue. Close it all up and the pressure will be equal. Flow I what your challenge. Rolls have less couplings and therefore less K factors. Never cut it with a saw. Use a pipe or tube cutter to get squared ends which reduce K factors. Keep the pipe straight...

Fencing traps with 16' wire cattle panels?

My temporary panels are similar vett except I used 3 inch 14 gauge tube steel top bottom. 3' by 1 1/2" tube steel ends and mid. They pin together. 20 foot lengths. Two people can handle them but it is much easier to set it up with a front end loader. You have to have a loader for the...

    Pre-fabbing Steel Corner Posts/Braces

Dang few corners I've had were actually square. Prefabbing is not an issue. Backhoe can get the rock out. But when your "corner" is 97 degrees, a 90 degree prefab looks like hammered be nice.

    Insects Shorting Electric Fence

a snake got in to mine once. Not sure how he did it but he was zapped. I found him before the buzzards did. I don't know of any insect problems. Maybe I have had them and didn't know.

A half a roll of barbed wire

I built one that holds 4 rolls horizontal. Put 1 inch pipe through the roll of wire and then onto a horizontal sucker rod. If you're just patching you can park and pull off the wire. I love it. It sure makes life easier. Should have built it years back.

    Pecans

My nephew in Pecan Plantation gave me two 5 gallon buckets full. Biggest pecans I have ever seen. I've still got some bucket fulls of natives I need to get to shelling. Lisa's McCaw loves pecans. I was shelling and giving him pecan halves. She came in from work and saw me do it. Then...

    Pecans

38 years ago (or so maybe 37) they were paying 90 cents a pound for natives. I scrounged up a little over 800 pounds in a little over a week. Paid for Christmas with the money.

    Installing Continuous Fence?

TB is right. There are some professionals here. I have questions. Flat ground? Thru limestone? Thru clay? Net wire or all barbed? I ran 1370 foot cross fence. Sandy loam on the river flood plain for the most part. Tension posts every 100 feet or so. Two gates with gate posts. The...
