What are the going lease rates for pasture?

Cowman82, you bring up some good points. For years i leased a lot of places and spent time and money making them better. Now i spend on my own land except for a few places close by that are free. My land went from what looked poor when i bought it 20 years ago to having the best grass around.

What are the going lease rates for pasture?

In Virginia the extension agent has an estimated rate for each county. They figure by acre but there is so much variation in the pastures i figure it by animal unit.

    14-5-38 fertilizer

I agree that everyone needs a soil test. I also have never seen a soil test on hay or pasture that didnt need something added. Its 1000 lb so grab it.

    Grass ID

My app is saying quackgrass but not with a high degree of certainty. Im not confident in what it is. I rode through some of my paddocks that havent been grazed and cant find any of it. But i sure got way more grass than cattle to eat it.

    Clover Galore

Im pretty sure you haven't sowed any so it would be great to know why the red clover has done so well. I have some white but not much red. Ask your Ag Extension Agent out and get his or her ideas. They will be wanting to have a farm tour there.

I promise you its not fescue. I rely on fescue 11 months of the year.

    Grass ID

I think the seedhead not being open is making it look different and not as easy to identify.

    Grass ID

My thought was that since it was just heading out that the seed had not spread out from the stem yet. Best thing is that his cows ate it as soon as it was available to them.

    Grass ID

Lets see, didn't someone tell you it would be one of the first things to disappear when the cows found it? Who was that person?
  17. K

    Grass ID

It will disappear as soon as the cows go in. Just like Johnson grass you will never see it in continuous grazing because they keep it eat down.

Cows eat it and makes hay if not over ripe.

    Grass ID

Perennial Ryegrass is my first vote. Quackgrass is second. Both look very close after headed out.
