    New Baler

I have the Vermeer 5410 and really like it. Have had it for 7 years and it works great. Have had normal baler issues (bearings, belts) but very functional baler and dependable. Check with https://www.carterandcartermachineryinc.org. I would also suggest looking at either a 504M Classic or the...

Rye Grass and Rye Grain (cereal) Hopes

I apologize if misled, I broadcast it by hand, walking the fields (also getting good exercise for a fatman). Used a disc to cover up some and other let it lay. Both doing really well, caught the cows eyeballing it today through the fence.

Rye Grass and Rye Grain (cereal) Hopes

The cereal rye is growing really fast, and coming up fairly thick. I was a little worried as I broadcast it in place of using a no till drill. Will post some pics later. It has a week head-start on the rye-grass and you can tell it. It is really greening up. Also to help out we have had a few...

Rye Grass and Rye Grain (cereal) Hopes

Well I am testing out some winter and spring fields here to see what the pets, I mean cows, will like and to see how it grows. Not the best comparison with fields but willing to see what results come about. If I get the results plan on settling more rotational grazing plots with both.

    Winter Forage

I will be planting some cereal rye (grain) this week as UT informed me that it will grow better in the fall and a little less in the spring vs the rye grass that would grow a little now and more in the spring. So that is my plan on the forage after having Sudan grass on this field all summer...

    hay feeding

Exactly correct. I find the same thing with people close by. Adjusting the feeding to your specific cattle is all in how well your management tactics are, quality of hay, feed. John SD made excellent points. Take general advice and respond to your cattle's needs.

    hay feeding

We feed about 2-3 round bales (4x4.5) a week for 15 head. Might seem much but they eat it and it makes my dad happy to keep them healthy and easy to find.

    Hay equipment

The trick is to find out what works on your fields. I have a v-rake (agco) and still learning how to use it. Yes it does make a big diffeence with time, not as pretty as a side delivery but well worth it. I would take a vermeer wr20 in a heartbeat, seen to many of them work well, but on the same...
