Do you remove twine before feeding?

I remove all hay binding. I've seen cows stomachs with hay string in them . Not to mention the cows stomp it in the mud and you never get it out. Makes a place look trashy quick.

    Completely Flat Land???

My cows are on wet ground 6 months out of the year. I know guys who run cows in the Marsh where they are grazing in water 85 percent of the time .. foot rot isn't caused by water. I haven't had a case in 4 or 5 years. If you cull that cow the problem goes away . Treat it and keep her and she...

    Grazing/Nutrition question

nitrate concerns on fertilized ryegrass/bahia mix

I'm not saying this is correct but I usually wait until at least a half in of rain . I put 1 ton 6 acres about a month ago. Got 1 inch that night and put the heifers back on it a week later . I've also fertilized with the cows in the pasture and never had a problem.

    Manure in hay field

It will be gone after the first cutting . Either the mower or rake breaks it up .. most of the big pieces will fall to the bottom of the wind row and the baler will pass over them .
  8. J

So how do you do it

I feed in rings and move them every bale . In the spring I push up what's left into a pile and burn it.

Welp, that didn't go too good

Sounds like your spreader isn't designed for small seed like clover . Try mixing it with fertilizer.

which is the better deal, opinions

This probably doesn't help but if I have ground available I'll bail it. But I always look for last year's barn kept hay . Sometimes you can pick up hay that people wanted 40 a roll for last year for 15 a roll because they want to clear the barn.

How much hay should a cow eat in a day?

My cows get all the hay they can eat. I'm pretty far south so I figure 4 4x5 rolls of hay per year. This is proper rolls . Not some lose or junk hay .

    Tubs

I like the tubs for fall applications here.. after about august our grass is junk .. it's still green but tough as boot leather .. I will drop a tub out at the end of July.. by October they are really hitting the tubs hard .. I usually start putting out hay around mid November to the first of...

    Broadcasting into Pasture

I usually wait until we have a good chance of rain .. I planted my ryegrass the week of Thanksgiving.. I have it mixed with fertilizer and spread it out .. 2 inches of rain the next day and now it's pretty and green .. only problem now is getting in the field to fertilize it again ..

    chicken litter

If you can show me a cow that eats dog fennel and thistles and not just a bite here and there I'll buy a truck load from you .. I put out litter a couple years ago .. I've been fighting several different weeds I've never seen on my place ever since ..
