    Grass ID

I'm wondering if it isn't a type of fescue. The bearded seed is what's throwing me for a loop. Was dark when I got in last night, I'll grab a couple pieces of it to bring home for a photoshoot. It's so green that it's almost blue.

    Grass ID

After looking at pictures, I don't think it is perennial ryegrass nor quack grass. Has a seedhead very similar to fescue, only bearded. I'll get some better picture. I'd really like to know. Haven't seem it before and there are quite a few little clumps of it this year. Gonna watch to see how...

For anyone interested in regenerative grazing (especially if you are in big country)

Keep up the good work, Mr Bob! Doing anything near TN?

    Grass ID

In the past I thought this was a variety of fescue. I'm not sp sure that's accurate though. Different growth habit, seedheads have hairs/beard deal going on. It's a completely different color green. It's growing in random spots. Looks super healthy.

Use of Super Absorbent Polymers - Sodium Polyacrylate

It'll sure kill some stuff. My garden is in year 3 of the bs. Hoping it's better this year. Find someone that makes hay and doesn't use the stuff. If they're just using 24d shouldn't be a problem. Feed store is probably the worst place to buy hay I'd think. You want to deal with a producer...

Use of Super Absorbent Polymers - Sodium Polyacrylate

I'd rather work to increase the organic matter of the soil using grazing management and wasted hay. That's just me. Doubt anyone's used the stuff you're asking about. Sounds no Bueno to me.

    Fertilizer with Grazon next

I tried it in '18. I don't think it killed anything and I mixed it stronger than the label suggested. Still have gallons of it. If ya were close I'd give it to ya. Anyone local is welcome to it.

    Clover Galore

Took these about a week ago. Gonna start grazing tomorrow most likely. Gonna graze lightly then get a late first cutting in hopes weather cooperates better. Property line fence picture is pretty interesting.

    Fertilizer question

I'm no agronimist, but does it look like he'd be ok with just hitting it with N?

    Bale Grazing

Some bale grazing time lapse pictures. I did unroll 10 or 12 bales on it this past winter as well. Plan to cut it for hay this year. Winter 2022, Summer 2023, Spring 2024

    Clover Galore

I use them at certain times. Couldn't afford to do it year round though.

    Clover Galore

I figure if they had access to ground enough they could only eat clover...probably could. Myself. I don't give them that chance. Solution is dilution.

    Clover Galore

I sure hope 2024 is good for us all!

    Clover Galore

Got red, white, and yellow clover everywhere. All from the seedbank. The entire farm is covered in it right now. Seems a good bit of my cool season grass died off last fall due to being so dry. Hoping some of it will come back. Would appear its mostly red clover that has replaced it. I did...

    lets talk second cut hay

Depending on how it was put up and when I was cut, I much prefer 2nd and 3rd cut when compared to 1st cut. Often times around here though, 2nd cut is cut end of season and everything is rank with a bunch of broomsedge. Laying for 1.5 weeks would bother me. But like said above. Beggers can't be...

    2024 Spring Seeding

We sure have. And that's been in the back of my mind. I'm pretty sure it'll fill in just fine if I do nothing, but wondered what others were doing. Seed has been wasted money for me thus far on account of weather. And it very well may turn dry again this spring. Hopefully not. Let's all do the...

    2024 Spring Seeding

What are yall doing with your heavy use winter feeding areas to get them back in shape? I usually let the seedbank do its thing, but am considering some seed this year. Drill or broadcast, whatever will work. Lookin for suggestions. This is pasture/hay ground that has seen 10 to 15 bales per...
