    Broom sedge hay

At what stage of growth did you roll it? My cows love it if I can roll it before it heads out but won't touch it afterwards.

kudzu-someone ask and I don't know the answer

If you will bring a couple of semi trailers and workers to cut and dig up the roots I will load it for you for free. It is no friend of the soil as it will let gullies wash right under it. Cows love it green but mine won't touch it in a bale.

    Hay Shares--Question from Newbie

There are too many unknowns in this deal for me to be either party. Cost per acre to fertilize properly, cost per acre to reseed properly, and approximate tons of hay per acre that it normally makes per year. When you say labor, I am guessing that you are saying his labor, fuel, and machinery to...

My first ever October hay cutting...

After letting the army worms eat up the third cutting, I shot it with ammonia and got about 3/4 of a normal cutting. Was surprised how many horse people still wanted squares.

    Round bale hay cradle questions

I found that the problem with the hay rings is the cows will push the rolls off because the rings are not a small enough radius. CB has the best design that I have seen even though Boogie's is the cheapest.

    Hay Rack

CB, do you remember the radius that the rods are bent to that hold up the hay. In the pic they appear to be about 3'. I built one out of scrap hay rings and they are too flat.

    pasture rent $

I rent 30 acres of good bottom land pasture during the summer and fall mostly as a safety net and pay 150 a month and run 20 pairs without overgrazing. Still haven't fed any hay.

    GOING PRICE TO ROLL HAY??

If its friend for friend then 10 a roll is something to start at but the guy doing the baling is not making $5 an hour for his time.

What is it worth to mow and rake?

The split will vary with how many bales per acre are rolled.

Any used bullet proof Balers I should consider ?

Good balers, several, depends on your ability to make repairs. Buttet proof, it hasn't been built yet.

Best to plant for premium horse hay?

Steve, you may be too far north for it but Wrangler bermuda is supposed to be very cold tolerant. Bermuda is the only thing horse people in my area will buy and it has to be weed free, have a green tint to it, and smell good. Horse people are different to say the least.

    Lbs. of seed per acre(bermuda)

These folks say 12 lbs per acre. I have never planted any. http://www.jeinc.com/wrangler-bermudagrass

    teff and orchardgrass

About what height is it when it is ready to cut? Any idea how it compares to hybrid bermuda in TDN?

    Pull behind spreader?

I would suggest an old cultipacker roller to cover the seeds, does a good job for me.

    Pasture started renting last year

I put 2 tons per acre, guess I was expecting too much. It would be nice if someone would come up with a spray that would kill it and not good grasses. If I cut it before it begins to head out it makes good hay but thats not always possible.

    Pasture started renting last year

I hope you have better luck getting rid of that sage grass with lime than I have. I think mine thrives on it, of course it would probably help if I would put about twice the fertilizer on it.

    Overseed or Drill?

Robert, you can drop by and see some that I drilled and some that I disked, sowed, and rolled in and compare.
