    I agree, dairy can be profitable, and there are some small dairy's in my area that seem to do really well. However, you had better plan to work full time 7 days a week. Not that beef cows don't require 7 day inputs, but there is a lot more flexibility.

    I've had em show up after 3 or 4 days when I was sure they were a goner. We have one cow that we named "Bad Momma" cause hers seem to get lost every year and she shows no concern. But every year they end up making it to the sale. We quit looking after the second year.

    I have some experience here. When I started out, I had 21 2 year old heifers. I rented a bull for 60 days. The bull was vet checked and healthy. Towards the end of the 60 days I called the guy I had rented from (he was reputable, and had supplied several neighbors with both cows and bulls.)...

    Crippled Calf

    Should be nice in fat if he can't move around much. I would pen him up with a buddy, and finish him out for a few months. Don't know where you are but I have some pre-booked kill dates in central Texas if you are nearby and can't get one.
