    How can banding cause tetanus???

You're replying to an 18 year old thread. And frankly, your tetanus advice is right on par with your "advice".

    What happened to white angus?

From what I’ve seen, admittedly very little and only pics, the white angus cattle have/had coloration like murray grey. The skin around the eyes and nose looks grey, definitely not pink like unpigmented herefords.

    What happened to white angus?

Where are you seeing the correlation between the two? Cancer eye doesn’t have anything to do with hair color.

    vegetable oil on back rub??

It won't work anywhere on earth. The thought that vegetable oil can somehow control flies is bizarre.

Mourning cow - How long does it last?

I gave you the only answer there is. Do you really think there’s a specific number of hours before they magically forget? You can’t help, its just part of nature. Usually within a couple days they go about their normal routine.

Mourning cow - How long does it last?

You can’t get a straight answer because there is no straight answer. Cows don’t read a manual. Also, its not possible for a momma cow to be less than a year old.

    Permethrin and pasture

Does the US EPA create different lables for different states? I thought they were universal across the states.

    Permethrin and pasture

The thread starter hasn’t been here for 5 years, probably isn’t coming back. Permethrin actually is labeled for “rangeland” and of course most vegetables and crops. It says cattle must “ not be present”, but doesn’t specify how long until they can be brought back. Jere it is, if this works...

Getting less at the sale barn

The manager of our largest local barn is also an “order buyer” for several feeders or backgrounders. He also buys a lot for himself. He buys calves while he’s in the ring. Its a balancing act of keeping customers thinking they get the occasional good deal while keeping the larger cosigners happy...

Getting less at the sale barn

At the very least, if they ask you about weaned and vac status, and you tell them, they should at least note it when they’re in the ring. It costs you time and money to do that.

Cattle got through 4 rung barbed wire fence. Advice?

Agree, one out could be a loose wire. All of them is usually a bigger problem. I’ll also add, this is the reason I no longer build or trust 4 wire fences. The gaps are large enough to let them reach through if they see something the like, and over time that just loosens everything. Deer also go...

    Tanning for beginners.

In regards to getting your own hide back, any reputable tannery will have a punch code system where all hides are punched and tracked. I always add my own punch code too, just to make sure. So far I’ve always got mine back.

    Tanning for beginners.

Those hides you see for sale cheap are usually shipped from some third world crap hole where they’re “tanned” with questionable chemical by some 12 year old being paid pennies per day.

    Tanning for beginners.

First, what is it? If its anything bigger than a squirrel, just go into it assuming its not going to turn out great, and it will most likey be stiff as a board. And do NOT let anyone tell you it can be easy or cheap. Its neither, and if they suggest a method that is, say thank you and ignore...

    Honey Locust Trees

A mulcher on the front of s skid steer will make quick work of those, and save a lot of time and cussing in the process. Even if you spray them all, you still have to deal with them. And once dry the thorns are even harder.

    Dust in my Dodge!

Slowing down enough to not make dust is the only way to stop it. But thats rarely a realistic option.

    Tanning hides

LOL You’ve very obviously never worked with cow hide. Carry on.

    Tanning hides

Preserving a skin that ends up a stiff board that may or may not deteriorate in the next 10 years is in no way the same thing as tanning a hide, turning it I to a soft piece of leather that will last a lifetime. One can be done by anyone with a bucket, the other MUST be done at a tannery unless...

    Tanning hides

No they aren't. None are. Now, some people use them and CALL them tanning solutions, but they in no way turn skin into leather. The DA can preserve thin skins, but over time they can, and often do, break down. The glycerin doesn't even offer any preservation, its a throwback to when people...

    Tanning hides

Denatured alcohol doesn’t tan skins, but it can preserve thin skins like birds and fish. Its not something to consider for something like a beef hide.
