    Hay Rings

I know this is an old thread. But I thought I would add to it instead of starting a new one. So I had done a bunch of searching and didn't find a lot of info on heavy built hay rings other than the gobob ones that are rectangular and extremely heavy duty. I wanted something that was possible to...

    Electric fence post

I have the obrian treadaline step ins, the 3/8" fiberglass from tsc, and the plastic step ins from tsc. I like obrians the best by far. I've found that the metal spike being smaller than the 3/8" fiberglass makes them go into the ground much easier. They also hold up better than the others. The...

Bout to give up on Craigslist

I sold a nice Hereford yearling bull on Craigslist a couple months ago. Someone contacted me through email and text and wanted to pay with PayPal for the bull and for me to deliver it 2 hours away. At first I told him no because it made me nervous. I thought about it and told him I wouldn't...

    AL pasture lease

I just leased 50 acres after looking for nearly a year. I ended up finding land after making contacts by calling any business that has anything to do with farming in a 50 mile radius. Feed mills, ag extension offices, farm insurance companies, hardware stores. I even knocked on a few doors of...

    Getting started

Definitely scary buying for the first time. I strayed from my plan to only buy pairs to get started. I bought four calves from a local guy. I ended up losing one of them to respiratory issues. I was able to get the others on the right track after finding a local vet to sell me draxxin. We also...

    Calves over winter question.

So far so good with the first pair. If all goes well. I should have 10 head by Sunday evening. Next step is have the vet come out to take a look, Figure out AI schedule for the non bred cows, and wait 8-12 months to collect my money. Sounds so simple. I'm excited to see what this...

We acquired our first two head today. A registered Hereford cow and her steer calf from a registered bull. She was a little protective at first, but warmed up. She's halter broke. The calf is NOT. He looks beefy though. It was an awesome experience. Can't wait for more. G  onna keep em...

    Need starting out advice.

The 3 year requirement from fsa is only for loans to purchase a farm. They loan money to anyone that qualifies for getting started or yearly expenses. The interest is very low. I just used this service to get started on land that I'm leasing. I have no previous experience. It would have been...

    Calves over winter question.

They will have access to the woods as well as the pasture. There are many nooks and crannies in the woods for them to get out of the weather. Land owner says that the springs never freeze. So I hope that isn't an issue. There is city water there as well if need be. Is it possible that with...

    Calves over winter question.

I'm in the Louisville ky area. I'm leasing 50 acres of fenced land. About 30 acres being pasture and 20 being wooded. There is a pond and 2 springs on the property. The owner of the land says in the last 25 years he's never had to give water, even in the winter. There have been no animals on the...
