    gelbvieh homo polled fullblood embryo's

I breed fullblood and purebred Gelbvieh and have thought about doing some embryo implants but with the low cattle prices we have seen this year it is out of the question. There is a former fullblood breeder here in Southern Indiana that has quite a few fullblood embryos that he never implanted...

    Registered Cattle Sales

Ebenezer I enjoy your analysis. I have gotten into the registered cattle for improving my herd. I buy above average heifers when I buy, I breed artificial so that I can improve using the top sires, and I am culling based on production. As far as profitability even with the record prices that the...

    Simi Dispositions ?

In the early 70's we crossed the Simmental that ABS had with some of our milk cows and all of the offspring were tame. Now some of our local cattlemen have "Simmental" and they are as well as Angus, matter of fact they appear to be nothing more than overgrown Angus. As far as I'm concerned the...

Are the days of a small registered breeder over

In any business there will be those "customers" who have no problem with taking all they can get from someone. They are the ones who weren't going to come back unless they could find a bargain. You hate to miss a sale to them but you have to realize they weren't your customers, they were just...

    We Want Some Cows

I would say if it turns off dry again you would have people lining up with an offer like that.

What to expect from a breed association?

Breed associations are similar to the extra tractor you have. You can't cost flow it but when you need it it takes on an added value. The Gelbvieh Association is constantly working on improvements that the breeder can use. The implementation of their online registry program a few years ago was a...

    Mineral Panel

I had never heard of this. I would suggest speaking with a reputable feed company which has a nutritionist on staff or an extension agent specializing in nutrition ans discuss it with them.

Gelbvieh Owners, Fans, & Critics Get In Here

I would suggest going with a purebred Gelbvieh (94%) that is what is called a double black and I would go ahead and add in the double polled. That would achieve what you are after.

Cows came off Summer pasture looking good!

It appears they had some good forages this summer. What kind of grass do you have them on now?

    Finally some calving weather !

Now that's God blessing you. No one can plan calving to fit into a window like that. By the way that is a nice calf especially when they get up and nurse.

something to be said for breed docility

We have had Gelbvieh for six years and are 100% AI and have yet to have to run one through the chute. They have all been bred by throwing a rope on them and tying them up to a post.

    Need Some Rain!

We have had plenty of rain but without the major floods here in Southern Indiana. I was even blessed enough to have hay rained on this year, but I'll take it for it has made for a thick second cutting.

    Fullblood Gelbvieh calves

We finally got our first Fullblood Gelbvieh calves. The two bulls are out of full sisters whose maternal grandsire is the Rippe...

    Fullblood Gelbvieh

Welcome to the forum Donok. With what you have shared with us and all the advancements in embyology do you see new fullblood gelbvieh being imported through the use of embryos?

    Born this morning

That expains the stature. I believe you will like the Gelbvieh. We have two fullbloods and 2 purebreds so far this spring and only assisted one of them. I appreciate their calving ease.

    RGV Hanchon Gelbvieh calves

I have had 3 first calf heifers calve in February to Hanchon. He is a fullblood and is also a young bull. Dr Glenn Wehner said he would be an easy calver and he has proved so. I would recommend him for first calf heifers. I hope to attach a picture of a 2 day old heifer and a week old bull.

    Gelbvieh CE EPD change

I haven't seen the new numbers but having begun in the dairy industry and now in the Gelbvieh breed I still don't put much stock into the numbers. I have learned that it all comes down to if you can pay your bills after you sell your product. I believe that whatever the scoring system as a...

    Gelbvieh

Though your question is rather vague I assume your looking for a sire for breeding your cows to. If you inseminate it would be easy to select a purebred gelbvieh with good maternal characteristics. I have some excellent cows out of ABS's Moderator. You would be forfeiting a little on your steers...

    Fullblood Gelbvieh

Your right about that. I will try to have my son to post some pictures. They are definitely rugged cattle. We are going to keep breeding as fullbloods I hope to help preserve them for their genetic base.
